General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Essex libraries have been banned from promoting LGBTQ and Pride events by the county council’s new Reform UK leadership.

The diktat comes at the start of Pride Month: a four-week celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) communities.

I find it incredibly hard to believe a Reform councillor or supporter even knows where their local library is, let alone having ever stepped inside.

I'm hoping the librarians realise the same and ignore the order entirely after the ersatz politicians have had their photo op

Then they fire the librarians, and close the libraries because of staffing issues.

I guess my point was that if they've never been to the library before the photo op, they're never likely to return and therefore realise

But you make a fair point

I don't find it that hard to believe - they have to know where to go when the book burnings start...

Thus proving Pride events are still necessary.

Something told me they would come after the gays after the UK decided to go aggressively against trans people.

I'm smelling a Streisand effect.

No one said there couldn't be a pride flag outside the library...

Isn't it unlawful to discriminate against gay people?
