This has to be my fav marketing tactic from AI companies.

You can just turn the computer off. Stupid fucks

Who told them that, the LLM

Pulling the ladder up after themselves? Riight.

Imagine that the AI that breaks containment is a dog walking app AI. We'll all just be bred and forced to walk dogs

We've got a super important IPO coming up. Hey world governments could you make it illegal for anyone else to build what we just built? It's super dangerous no one else can be trusted with this responsibility

What no we're not worried that there's no moat and that we have to keep spending effectively infinite money forever in order to maintain our lead

Anthropic is all hopped up on goofballs.

This whole thing is about being afraid that open source AI will suddenly gain sentience and destroy the human race, right?

[–] mistermodal@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

Think less sentience and more cutting into their market share or public/private partnerships. In another dimension or some shit the EU has real open source partnerships instead of like suckling at the teat of Microslop.

They’re not actually worried about AI gaining sentience. They’re bullshitting. A better question is, why are they bullshitting? And I think the answer is some combination of:

  • Free advertising for their company.
  • To lobby for laws that:
    • Pull the ladder up behind them;
    • block Chinese AI from competing with them on their own turf.

Everyone stops developing but them.

But more likely they're playing out the marketing angle that omg they've made something so smart it frightens them

[–] jdr@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago

I think we should just let it happen

[–] BrickEater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I hope to god it does.
