Of course but MBS is buddy with / lackie to oil sheikhs. Making anything electric look bad is his job.

This is not the reason. Teams were deathly afraid that Audi would get an advantage because they have good experience with front wheel regeneration from WEC.

That's the excuse and a mightily stupid excuse as well. As if a simple harvesting motor would be such rocket science.

If it was an actual concern, the front axle regeneration could have been a spec part. Other FIA world championships use such spec parts, for example the Bosch motor on the rear axle of LMDh cars or this Lucid Motors part in Formula E. F1 could literally just use the very same motor:
