That Lincoln fella seemed alright. Plus, Garfield was literally assassinated for not being corrupt enough.

Carter was a homie.

Reagan was satan.

Clinton balanced the deficit.

Bush rented out the army for oil.

Obama brought us medical coverage, subsidized lower and middle class loans for cars, homes, and education.

Trump rapes children and throws infant corpses in lakes.

Biden was old but mid, pardoned thousands of marijuana convictions and attempted many times to forgive all student debt but only managed about $70Bn of it.

Trump still rapes children and throws infant corpses in lakes.

Clinton balanced the deficit.

The Clintons Had Slaves

Clinton was, however, generous enough to allow inmates from Arkansas prisons to work as unpaid servants in the Governor’s Mansion. In It Takes a Village, Hillary Clinton writes that the residence was staffed with “African-American men in their thirties,” since “using prison labor at the governor’s mansion was a longstanding tradition, which kept down costs.” It is unclear just how longstanding the tradition of having chained black laborers brought to work as maids and gardeners had been. But one has no doubt that as the white residents of a mansion staffed with unpaid blacks, the Clintons were continuing a certain historic Southern practice. (Hillary Clinton did note, however, that she and Bill were sure not to show undue lenience to the sla…servants, writing that “[w]e enforced rules strictly and sent back to prison any inmate who broke a rule.”

...

The Clintons’ use of prison labor was only one small part of a long and horrifying record. Both Clintons, but especially Bill, have consistently manipulated black political interests while showing complete disregard for the humanity of African Americans. This stretches from Hillary’s perpetuation of a hideous racist myth about a wave of hyper-violent “superpredators” to Bill’s politically-motivated execution of a mentally disturbed black inmate.

If your only complaint about a president is that he didn't change a practice older than the nation itself, indentured servitude / prison labor, then that sounds like a damn fine president to me.

Sadly, Clinton was not the saint you make him out to be, he was actually pretty anti-welfare and you would do better to criticize him for things like that which he actually wrote policy on.

If your only complaint about a president is that he didn’t change a practice

That's not my only complaint by a long shot. But there's a straight line from keeping slaves in your Governor's mansion to keeping them on Epstein Island. If the standard of decency for a human being is so low that brutalizing someone into servitude is a step below sainthood, we're a nation that deserves a thousand years of Donald Trump.

I think if the Trump admin had any dirt on Clinton in the Epstein files they would have unloaded it all by now. Hell, Bill Clinton actually threatened the Trump admin and asked for the immediate unloading, image attached.

I've heard Chuds say the same thing about Trump under Biden

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't recall Trump's lawyer calling Biden a pedophile and demanding the release of the Epstein Files.

Most of the cheap heat was directed at Hunter, if I'm not mistaken. And then Joe had to issue a pardon for his son to keep him out of jail.

Lincoln committed the largest mass execution in American history, as punishment for fighting back against mass starvation imposed on the Dakota by the American government and the accepted, continuing theft of dwindling tribal lands by white settlers. It was part of the ongoing genocide against indigenous peoples.

There are no hero presidents.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

John Adams? He was willing to sacrifice his career if it saves an entire nation by refusing to declare war on the more powerful France, despite American public opinion baying for blood. He also didn't have slaves.

Guess who signed Trump’s favorite law, the Alien Enemies Act of 1798?

His treatment of indigenous peoples is more complex, but it’s not really what you would call good either. He certainly had racist views of them, even though he opposed slavery.

Lincoln several times supported massacres of natives and Garfield spent much time fighting against unions and was a huge supporter of big business.

CW for genocidal racism

"But what shall we do with the negroes after they are free? I can hardly believe that the South and North can live in peace unless we get rid of the Negroes. Certainly they cannot, if we don't get rid of the Negroes whom we have armed and disciplined and who have fought with us, I believe, to the amount of 150,000 men. I believe it would be better to export them all..."

They worked hard for years to get it at this point where you can be this corrupt in the open.

The US Presidency was a font of corruption from the first day it existed.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

George Washington's dentures weren't wooden. They were made from the teeth of enslaved people.

So our first president literally wore the bodies of his victims as a cosmetic. Like Leatherface.

More evil *

Idiots not seeing the difference between presidents that start wars and those that end them allowing warmongering presidents to take the POTUS.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Which presidents "end wars" that don't immediately pivot to new ones?

Just comes out to a bunch of articles saying jimmy carter started no wars but that is irrelevant when he helped the shah massacre his citizens and helped Suharto massacre his citizens and invade east Timor.

Oh wow, turns out politicians are fallible human beings, just like every other person.

If you follow the philosophy that humans are inherently evil, that's fine, but don't make out like every US president ever has been somehow unique in this regard.

The point is the job of us president requires "evil" due to its structural alignment and how the country functions.

The US isn’t uniquely evil among settler colonial states, but it is a settler colonial state. That’s inherently going to be worse than a non-settler colonial state.

[–] Holyginz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There are no perfect leaders. Every one of them did good things and bad things. Some did more good than bad, some did more bad than good. Currently we have one who is all bad.

No american president did "more good than bad".

Teddy Roosevelt was an okay chap for the time.

Tell that to the Philippines,Central America, Hawaii and so on and not to mention he was a committed white supremacist who did tours in the south admonishing black people to accept their place.
