They are correct to criticize liberals, but not correct to give conservatives a pass as being "simpletons". Both factions are more often of the same faction than they'd generally like to admit. There are ignorant people of every faction everywhere, but in terms of the power brokers, conservative and liberal in the imperial core are mostly performative or superficial disagreement and join hands when it comes time to do empire things.
