"As revolutionaries, we don't have the right to say that we're tired of explaining. We must never stop explaining. We also know that when the people understand, they cannot but follow us. In any case, we, the people, have no enemies when it comes to peoples. Our only enemies are the imperialist regimes and organizations." Thomas Sankara, 1985

They are correct to criticize liberals, but not correct to give conservatives a pass as being "simpletons". Both factions are more often of the same faction than they'd generally like to admit. There are ignorant people of every faction everywhere, but in terms of the power brokers, conservative and liberal in the imperial core are mostly performative or superficial disagreement and join hands when it comes time to do empire things.

Yeah. It's like the difference between the psychopath who really isn't aware they're doing anything wrong, although the general reaction may indicate people don't like the behavior for some undefined reason, and sociopath, who fully understands what they're doing is wrong, and why, plays innocent while doing the wrong thing anyway. Gross overgeneralization with the sociopath/psychopath analogy.
