After the first time I heard Falling in reverse, I was like cool! let's check out more info... Oh god, oh no

[–] Ophrys@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 day ago

Last week I saw Agriculture, they called for happy pride and a free palestine, and their black metal style is fucking amazing.

This is why if I ever met the members of Fit For An Autopsy off stage I would kiss them, and they'd probably kiss me back. We held a huge "From The River To The Sea" banner at their last concert, painted by dipping our hands in red paint, and the entire audience helped us hold it and the band all made a gesture on stage excited about it.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That’s fuckin’ rad.

Also, fuck Israel.

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago

Or perhaps one could say...

That's fuckin' metal?

[–] jlow@slrpnk.net 37 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Yep, if you let a nazi play in your band you have a nazi band, just like with the bar (or Framework computers 😿).

[–] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 13 hours ago

Whoa! I'm out of the loop, here. Mind filling me in about Framework?

[–] felixthecat@fedia.io 15 points 1 day ago

What about system of a down?

They're obviously very left leaning in everything they've done. And yet it turned out the drummer was a magat all along and the only thing they rest of the band can get him to agree on anymore is that the Armenian genocide was wrong.

I get the sentiment and as soon as something like that comes out the rest of the band may need to re-evaluate the band. But with soad and how openly liberal they've been consistently with their songs and politics outside of the band, would you still think soad is a maga band?

I personally think the drummer is a dumbass with 0 critical thinking skills. The band is still unapologetically left leaning in it's songs and messaging despite the drummer.

My brother complains about black metal for that reason a lot. Finds a good band, finds out they are nazis, now he’s gotta find stuff that sounds like them that isn’t made by nazis, which is a harder task in black metal than other genres.

Makes me happy that I’m into doom and sludge, just a bunch of fat guys writing songs about space dragons, wizard fights, how awesome beer and weed are, and kaijus.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

Much easier in country music to give them

[–] leraje@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Gallowbraid, Panopticon, Rotting Christ, Celtic Frost/Triptykon, Burnt Lodge, Ellende, Agriculture, deafheaven, Hiraeth, The Infernal Sea, Iskra, Dawn Ray'd, Eveale, Feminazgul, GVLA, Napierdalac, Nixil, Ofnus, Primordial Serpent, Svarta Havet, Terzij de Horde, The Blood Mountain Black Metal Choir, Underdark, Unmother, Weald + Woe, Weigedood, Woe.

All Black Metal, all 100% not fash or bigots or arseholes.

Edit: For anyone interested, I co - present an antifascist extreme metal radio show once a month on Chaos Under No Ties. The show is called Contra Odium.

[–] nightlily@leminal.space 4 points 1 day ago

May I suggest BlackBraid as well. I know there’s controversy over whether he’s „really“ Native American but the music kicks ass.

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Every time I listen to Gallowbraid, I am sad that they only have one album. What a shame. Fantastic music.

also

Feminazgul

Gotta love Margaret <3

[–] leraje@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They (Gallowbraid) performed at Fortress Festival a couple of weeks ago which I choose to take as an encouraging sign that new stuff might be on the horizon.

And yeah, any project Margaret's involved in is an instant 'yes' from me.

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oh I almost forgot! Check out Caladan Brood. I am like 99% sure it's the same people as Gallowbraid xD again just one album tho.

[–] leraje@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 20 hours ago

It is the same people :) I just forgot to put them in my list.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I love lists of black metal band names, they’re so creative.

“Alright, gang, time to name the band. What name would manage to tell people we hate Christianity, hierarchy, and societal concepts, but also tells them that we’re super into The Lord of The Rings and D&D?”

[–] leraje@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 20 hours ago

If its Tolkien based antifascist black metal you're after, I recommend Lammoth.

I didn't know about Dolmayan and now I don't know whether to thank you or curse you :(

Dolmayan I'm not that worried about. Serj is well known for progressive activism and it's laced throughout all of SOAD's lyrics. He's making a chud perform woke shit lol.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait what happened with framework

[–] user_name@programming.dev 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Nothing. This a stupid, self defeating comment by op. Copied from Reddit: "Framework decided to sponsor Hyprland, which is basically a Linux GUI. It has also apparently been promoting Omarchy, which I first heard about yesterday when this came up, so can't say too much about that.

Creator of Hyprland is controversial to say the least, and he has been pretty much ousted from the open source community."

Saying sponsoring hyprland makes framework nazi is one of the stupidest things I've seen on the internet in a long time

[–] jlow@slrpnk.net 4 points 18 hours ago

The problem isn't Framework sponsoring or featuring nazis (pretty sure they just didn't know). The problem is that when people told them: "Hey, you're promoting people that literally want to kill me, I don't feel save here anymore". They didn't make a clear statement that they're anti fascist but said some corporate marketing bullshit about big tents and inviting everyone (which I personally and many others understood as them being cool with nazis in their mids as well because they didn't want to scare away investors).

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Wow there truly is no ethical consumption under capitalism

[–] Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Oh boy, suggesting Mayhem to people

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

At least the songs weren’t about nazi shit, just nerd shit.

But, like I already said, fuck Varg. Would be willing to play his TTRPG, though, if I’m being honest.

[–] tgirlschierke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I've heard MYFAROG has a lot of his... inclinations, but I don't go looking for games with that level of infamy attached to them (I haven't even read a single page of FATAL), so I don't know.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

I heard it's printed in friggin' Papyrus typeface.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I feel like it would be an autopsy of his world building more than any kind of gameplay session, at the end of the day. Maybe I’ll give it a go after he dies.

[–] tgirlschierke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 12 hours ago

Reading MetalSucks' article on it, doesn't seem to be anything more than you'd expect from the guy. Also contains this wonderful quote:

As long as he doesn't kill anyone (else),

[–] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mayhem is the tip of the iceberg.

[–] Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am aware, however, the comic seems to be suggesting the band here is mayhem

I 100% interpreted it as Mayhem.

Fuck Varg, BTW.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Trying to avoid musicians because of their predilections basically caused me to cease listening to music. It was too tedious and upsetting to sort through.

“Rapist, rapist, child predator, rapist, bigot, child predator- oooh, just a bunch of masochists! You stay on the playlist. Next up, rapist, rapist…”

[–] arcine@jlai.lu 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

AFAIK Steam Powered Giraffe and Angine de Poitrine are entirely unproblematic

[–] Aqarius@lemmy.world 0 points 20 hours ago

Other that, yknow, being a cult in an of themselves

[–] Tonava@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

It's the same with artists, writers, actors, politicians... basically any public person. Those roles attract total assholes who want fame and people to pander them (and money), and since they're also the ones that are most ready to kick others down to climb up, they're more likely to "make it". Reading up on anyone whose works you like is always a roulette with multiple rounds in

I feel like, once they're no longer profiting off the music, the morality of listening gets a lot simpler. I've never heard a Lostprophets track, but Watkins is dead, so I would be fine taking a look at their discography if I ever wanted to.

[–] mmmm@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hey, at least it's not like metalcore where everyone and their grandma has those wonderful things called ✨ allegations ✨

Allegations don’t necessarily turn me off of a band, but the specific allegations that show up in metalcore, A LOT, make me glad it’s not my cup o’ tea.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 7 points 1 day ago

You may be interested in The Sheltered, none of whom are Nazis.

[–] Canopyflyer@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sits back in comfy chair and puts on "Permanent Waves."

Because outside of a dubious flirtation with Ayn Rand, which Dirk stated in his autobiography was artistic and not political, those three are about as Canadian as Canadians get.

[–] arcine@jlai.lu 3 points 1 day ago

Man, Ayn Rand sucks, but "Atlas Shrugged" is THE best title for a book I have ever heard.
