Congratulations Aussies, we have a Trumpette!

Australia was never monocultural and can never be monocultural. Before and during English colonisation there was a pre-existing culture on this continent which will continue into the future and will not be erased. As for European-descended colonisers, from the beginning the colony was split between Protestants and Catholics, English and Irish, ruling class and their enforcers and convicts and so on. And that's just for starters. There has never been a monoculture. There is a monocle view which makes it simple not to think.

What are your favourite (or reviled) Pauline truisms (or falsisms)?

I doubt that monoculture exists anywhere. What does that even mean? It's as nebulous as the term social cohesion. A thought terminating cliché. We're already living in different cultures based on our geographical location and class background.

Much of what she says fits this vague, nostalgic view of the past and what the cookie cutter present should be.

[–] minimumchips@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah nostalgia can be distorting. It makes it worse when material conditions were actually better for many people in the past though. That has nothing to do with this monoculture idea though. And Pauline won't make material conditions better for workers.

That's for sure. It's just words anyway. If PHON have to front up with real policies let's see what they come up with.

[–] eureka@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

What does that even mean?

I suspect it's a reaction to "multicultural". Their demand isn't a cohesive vision, it's a tantrum.

Read it as monochrome culture and it makes much more sense.

Besides which unless we do some pretty awful stuff it’s probably impossible to achieve. It’s unbelievably diverse for our population.

The kind of monoculture I'd like to see is one that priotises wages over asset growth. I suppose that would be awful for asset owners, but I'm sure they'll be OK.

That's not even the real story here. The real story is that the party of freedom and anti woke is having a sook and wants to use police resources to arrest the person who did it... Over a piece of paper that literally showed a real fact

Almost like a dictatorship would against their political opponents.

Throw rocks at this Nazi cunt.

All of the above, plus today monoculture is recognized as a bad thing (agriculturally speaking). Can't she even find a good metaphor?

[–] arbilp3@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago

That's the first thing I thought of too, the agricultural meaning, and how monoculture is bad for the land and for living beings. She either does not have enough understanding to see the implications of what she's saying, or, she wants to stir the pot to get lots of attention and social media action.

Exactly! 👌 😆

And I suppose it's her culture and she is going to impose it on everyone, whether they like it or not

she and her oppressive intolerant mates can eff off

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago

monocultural= white nazis.

I wonder what she thinks of the national anthem...

...One and free...Boundless plains to share....

[–] zero_gravitas@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Pauline still sings 'young and free' in protest I reckon 😆

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On this, I only learned a few weeks ago this had changed

Same here, no idea this was done

I’ve always wanted just didge for it. Nothing else, just didge, for however long necessary. 10 seconds is enough for a sports national anthem.

Nothing else is needed, it tells the whole story.

[–] notgold@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm happy for some didge but there's nothing like singing aaf at the top of your lungs at the mcg

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What the anthem? I can’t sing it, I just can’t, it’s awful

I’m biased though, I don’t really like any

[–] notgold@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Advance Australia Fair. I also like hearing the Kiwi anthem using Maori and English. Can't sing that one yet though

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah fair, nah I can’t sing them ay, I just stay quiet

I think it might be a throwback to primary school where they made us sing it every morning

[–] notgold@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah I remember having to sing at school. Funnily enough, the anthem was optional but the Lord's prayer wasn't; I went to a government school in the suburbs of Melbourne.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 0 points 1 week ago

She probably sings God Save The Queen/King

[–] arbilp3@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago

To share with those that fit some simplistic description.

I mean its kinda cool folks keeping up cultural traditions but monoculture is boring. Its great being in a city where you have a chinese area, and indian, and korean, and irish, and polish, and german, and ukrainian, and just everything.
