But be sure to immediately download an extension that snoozes inactive tabs, cuz otherwise it runs like shit

It's times like this that remind me that I barely use the normal internet and I don't use it like most people do, because my first thought was "you have inactive tabs?"

The only synchronous thing I have used the internet for in over a year is telehealth. I use the Tor browser more than I use Firefox.

I close about 3000 tabs at once each year.

Why not just let them decay? You could set your browser to close the tabs if they haven't been active in a month.

Ah yes. I tell people "I'm filing for tab bankruptcy". I still select all tabs and bookmark them to a new folder just in case.

Baby steps. Recommend Ungoogled Chromium first.

Firefox is unironically easier to switch to than ungoogled chromium for the average user imo.

Why would you take a half measure if it's equally as easy as a full one?

I wouldn't. I'm an IceCat guy. But the OP is fond of Chrome for some reason.

One of my browser idle games I use to kill time at work doesn't run well in firefox kitty-birthday-sad

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

I use it to run any Google services that I have use for (Gmail, YouTube, docs, etc). Keeps that shit out of my Firefox and tends to run better in Chrome anyway. I choose not to use Google services as much as I can, but I know too many people who don’t care and send me shit on there.

tbh the primary reason I never used Chrome is it runs like shit and never fixed its nasty memory leak problem afaik

this is like reading "diarrhea milkshake now also gives you AIDS"

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The memory leak problem is actually intentional design.

All services are run as separate processes. It can crowd out any other software running on the device. By taking advantage of the memory leak, Chrome can run 0.5% faster than if it actually did memory collection. Yes this is 100% real.

So it's dogshit on purpose, just one more reason to never touch it

I've always been incredibly confused as to why anyone uses Chrome when Firefox is right there. Runs much better and it's been out for years.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago

There was a period after about Firefox 3.5 where it kinda ran like shit and Chrome was the much better option. I use both in different contexts now, but I went years, maybe even a decade, without touching Firefox again.

Bring Back Phoenix.

Last time I used Chrome was shortly after they forked WebCore which was apparently in 2013.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

they already did long ago.. i only use chrome @ work, never at home

[–] db_null@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

My previous company tried to force Chrome down our throats too. I never bothered, everything worked in Firefox and nobody ever said anything either.

[–] DasRav@hexbear.net 9 points 4 days ago

Which is why we don't use chrome. Fuck you google.

[–] Midnight_Pearl@hexbear.net 10 points 4 days ago

ive been hearing about how manifest v3 is going to do this since like 2018

just get it over with already holy shit

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago

It's not because there is no chrome in my life.
