So MPs are pushing up the bill to repair the building because they don't want to work elsewhere for a while? The entitlement, man.
United Kingdom
General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
As a child, when our school was crumbling a bit too much, they put some Portakabins at the other end of the playground, and we did all our lessons in them.
Can't they just put some Portakabins at the end of their yard and do all their politics in them, to allow the main building to be cleared out and repaired properly?
If some pissy little primary school could afford it in the 80s, I'm sure the houses of Parliament can.
They should move out, turn it into a museum and set up a fit for purpose modern assembly building. Possibly somewhere like Birmingham, Leeds or Manchester.
If they turned it into a museum, they'd still have to maintain it as well as the new building in Slough that they'd move into. Also our prestige would lower, state opening of parliament might not be able to happen and thus another portion of tourist income down the drain also. I think there's more of an appeal to visiting it anyway as it's a functional building.
Slough.
Oh dear. My heat melted brain read that as Iran Visits. Why are the Iranians doing a hit piece on the Houses Of Parliament?
This is why the country needs to cut benefits to the bone and pauperise the most vulnerable in society... so that toffs and spads can keep their crumbling drinking club open.
I suggest "Project Guy Fawkes" to save the UK taxpayer £2 million a week.
