I feel like megacorps should have to tag their stuff.

[–] edgyspazkid@lemmy.wtf 0 points 1 hour ago

Someone should find or make a website with a graphic showcase of corporations links between them.

Parent companies shouldn't be a thing. If a company buys another company, it should be fully integrated, and all branding should be legally required to reflect the new ownership.

Parent companies shouldn't be a thing

I think stopping there is best. We don't need companies buying other companies, full stop.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 2 points 1 hour ago

I don't even think there should be a stock market, or companies not owned by the employees. Hell, I might have enough of these to get a bedtime Arya Stark chant going.

yea wish we got some heads up about that :/ eh I probably missed it

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

same....I am full of regret and it's far too late to do anything about it....

I regret nothing, fuck giphy and their webp bullshit

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 10 hours ago

At least it was fun at the time :)

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 129 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

huh, I contributed hundreds of hand made GIFs to tenor when I was big into Twitch, yet again the hard work of people gets eaten up by a company and closed off. Fuck you Google/Alphabet, I hope your AI eats your fucking lunch

[–] starchylemming@lemmy.world 20 points 14 hours ago

all good things have to end

cant have nice things here!

[–] MrKoyun@lemmy.world 27 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

This news has been around for months yet I still cannot understand why they are doing this. They can't actually be thinking that anybody would want to go to tenor.com and look at gifs right???

[–] iocase@lemmy.zip 7 points 6 hours ago

It's like if my ISP decided I needed to drive to a local office in town to pick up my data packets. WTF!?

[–] istdaslol@feddit.org 45 points 14 hours ago

Kinda insane how much of the internet is owned by Google. Rockefeller is crying in his grave that his SO got hacked up

When I post gifs I post them as gifs, not as links. I am not affected.

And: I disabled link preview in Discord. I've never seen your tenors, I just guessed them by looking at the url. ^^

[–] Archer@lemmy.world 13 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Weird, you’d think they would keep it running just for data harvesting

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Maybe they have harvested enough. Or not.

[–] marighost@piefed.social 23 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Discord already moved to using Klipy since early Spring or so. It's ok, I guess.

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 12 points 13 hours ago

Has it? My Discord channel shows me a Tenor gif I posted just yesterday that I shared using the native search.

If they are using Klipy, it must be a hybrid solution at the moment.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Kids these days have sterilized the word gooner.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 10 points 15 hours ago

I already made the move over to Stoat.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 23 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

I have never seen a catbox.moe gif that worked.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Clearly not a gooner

[–] DarkSirrush@piefed.ca 12 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Annoyingly, its on one of the most common pihole/adblocker lists, and I could never find a legitimate reason for why it is.

[–] missphant@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Anonymous file uploaders are pretty commonly abused to distribute malware so considering how popular catbox is that's probably how it got on there.

[–] DarkSirrush@piefed.ca 3 points 10 hours ago

The thing is, there are much worse services, that serve malware ads, that aren't on the same lists.
