I now live in the rural south, I kept getting waved at. On the back roads, in town, etc. I told my coworker about it, I thought someone in the area had the same car that they all knew.

He was "Nope we all wave to everyone, its just how its always been"

So I now wave back.

Do they all wave to visible minorities?

Most people : going insane trying to break the cycles of bad parenting.
This guy : cruising along surfing on generations of quality parenting.

Feels so good to spread a little love. Yesterday I had a delightful chat with a group of young roadmen, and checked in on a woman who looked sad sitting on some steps. She didn't need to talk and declined the hugs but appreciated the gesture. I actively try to engage with randos these days and I'm a happier person for it.

That's also the first step to actually knowing people everywhere. My dad's the same. There was rarely a place we could go where he didn't end up chatting it up with someone.

Though considering his job was HVAC repair, it's possible he legit knew people all over town.
