Tales of Phantasia has an excellent first town. Despite being an 16-bit game, it has water reflection, beautiful rain, and a vocal theme song! 16-bit!
The theme song only plays after almost everyone died, but it's worth it.
The people who figured out you can use localized palettes on SNES hardware were goddamn geniuses. Donkey Kong Country and Doom Troopers in particular stood out for somehow looking like they were running on a warehouse full of Crays instead of a gray and purple plastic thing the size of a shoebox.
A ceremony to celebrate the defeat of the Ancient Evil that plagued us 200 years ago that can never return or be reawakened.
Genshin is a chill game so the starter town only has to deal with a dragon attack.
(The second town gets two sea monsters.)
Bad news about FF4...
Just started playing Tales of Symphonia.... Yep.
Octopath Traveler 0, recently.
Yeah RPG is fun, but when are we getting RPG 2?
I got a fucking RPG 7 who wants to play
Hmmm did golden sun have a ceremony at the start? Been so long
That's exactly the one I thought of!
I think so, basically?
I know Chrono Trigger does... and Dragon Warrior 3... either you're meeting with the King, or it's like an actual formal ball or something?
Tho chrono trigger didn't have everyone in the village dying. No idea about dragon warrior.
Dragons dogma has everyone dying but no ceremony either
... are there any old jrpgs that like... actually do a fake out 'big party for quaint place', but its like, the beginning of the 2nd or 3rd act, but makes you think its just the end of the game?
Closest I can think is trials of mana. I think you got everything you needed then you go to the final area and then you find out you had to revisit all locations or something like that? Again, been a while so I might be wrong

Penny for your thoughts
You obviously missed Neverwinter Nights 2 !
literally deltarune
Took me straight to Legend of Legaia
