"Those royalties are going to the artists that listeners love, that they're listening to, artists that we all love, those verified artists, those human, authentic artists.

"When we look at the sort of entirely AI-generated music that people worry about, music that's industrially produced, less human input, we see [and] every other streaming service sees well under 1 per cent of consumption is going to those tracks.

"Listeners don't want it … and we're really seeing low consumption there.

"What we're hearing from fans and what we're seeing on our service is people want to listen to and are seeking out authentic human music."

Glad I canceled Spotify and went back to trackers and CDs.

Every story I hear about them just makes it sound worse.

I set up a navidrome server. It's been great to be more intentional about my listening habits, even though my excuse was previously that I didn't have time to make playlists and whatnot. I've heard so many songs that I haven't listened to since college, when I switched to YT Music.

A lot of the AI music was made/ordered by Spotify themselves, and they were paying themselves for it while taking away money from legit artists.

Call me when I can block all AI music.

[–] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 12 points 15 hours ago

I cancelled my years long subscription to Spotify because they were intentionally feeding me AI music alongside real artists in generated playlists. Every now and then you'd check the artist and there would be no bio or any info online about who was playing the current song.

I'll never give a single cent to Spotify ever again.

Once again a huge company fucked up and apologises magnanimously after the fact while not even completely removing the offending item.

Personally, I'd like actual accountability not this sort of whitewashing.

Oh and btw their "fix" is "a new artist verification program which gives verified artists a green check mark". I wonder if that even helps or just makes life for artists even harder.

Obligatory:

Green check will be another $8 a month from artists probably

What?

How about an option to block that AI content from search results completely?

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 22 points 18 hours ago

Of course! For an additional 5.99 a month you‘ll be able to hide AI content*!

*Unless the artist/label pays us to show it to you anyway.

Sincerely, Your Spotify Team! 🤑

Doesn't really work if the people posting music slop don't even mark it as ai.

Had to google some bands to see what was up with them and all I got was people asking if it was ai. That's the only way to find out sometimes.

So I guess this option lets you at least know that it's not ai that you're listening to.

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 10 points 20 hours ago

Or from being inserted into every playlist.

[–] justaman123@lemmy.world 6 points 15 hours ago

Human music. I like it

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 6 points 15 hours ago

no i won’t. cancelled shitify years ago.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 10 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

I've never heard an AI generated song on Netflix. I know I haven't because I don't use Spotify to find new music.

I'd suggest everyone check out KEXP if they want new music. Great source of literally any kind of music you'd want.

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago

+1 for KEXP

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

If you're going that way, there's also FIP.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 1 points 14 hours ago

I will check this out thanks

KEXP

KEXP is a non-commercial radio station in Seattle, Washington, United

Are you serious?

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 11 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

What’s not to be serious about? KEXP is a well known source for tons of great music, including up and comers, and their sound engineers are unparalleled.

[–] nullify3112@lemmy.world 1 points 45 minutes ago

Yo like Angine de Pointrine! The KEXP video game them a huge boost. So happy about that.

[–] Noja@sopuli.xyz 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I'm sure it's nice but radio station means "radio music"

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

What does “radio music” mean?

[–] dil@piefed.zip 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Top 100 or Top 20 charting songs on repeat

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Yeah, that’s not how KEXP works.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

https://youtube.com/@kexp

Yes they have a YouTube channel but also you can tune in online or find past performances on their website

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

No, I won't. Because I don't use Spotify. Puts on sunglasses

But seriously, I think it's dumb that streaming services don't just outright ban songs entirely made with AI.

[–] postman@literature.cafe 1 points 18 hours ago

I heard AI music in Greenland 2:Migration. It's slowly seeping into Hollywood.

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Oh, so this is what the name means. Long time coming.
