AI use boosted homework scores by 18 per cent and cut homework time from 64 to 45 minutes – a clear productivity leap.

viewing homework as "productivity" like it's an assembly line outputting widgets is such a middle manager-brained framing.

isn't the point of homework to, ya know, LEARN?

homework is just self-guided educational time, it's not about how fast you "complete" it.

even if you answer all questions correctly and quickly, but you don't understand how or why... you got those answers... well then you kinda failed the point of the homework, no?

(which is basically the only thing that counts after you're done with school)

Are you a teacher/professor? How are truly things going with AI? I see my nephews using YouTube to learn how to solve math problems (9 and 13) and I'm honestly worried how things will be by the time my son gets older.

It's truly depressing

Things are bad. They're coming in completely unprepared in some cases, and even our IT people are pushing AI to be used in blackboard (free "for now", with promises of "a great deal" when prices happen).

Students are suing Chegg, AI, and whatever else they can to not do any actual work. I can ask in an online discussion about what they did (a for-fun check-in question with no stakes) andnreceive multiple identical posts with different wording. I'd rather get the old bullshit "I agree with your post, Jennifer." Unsubstantive posts.

My team's playing with making exams worth more and required in-person again. At the moment, they're mathematically insignificant in my courses but online and open for a few days at a time. Scores are high, but range from like 30-100. They're entirely unmonitored... I have students ask if it's cheating if they use their notes. These kids have no fucking clue sometimes.

I have an advanced course in my workload and I require in-person exams (I'll even answer questions, during)... average scores these past two semesters were around 68. This is an advanced intro course and they're doing well while we cover the material.

In 101? I get being sometimes too checked out to bother getting in depth in further courses but in 101 you better pay attention. Smh so hard rn.

I wouldn't trust the South China Morning Post in anything political, but this seems to be right (I mean, the results aren't unexpected). They are also in Psychology Today, which seems to be a trustable source.
