I've been going to different servers and finding communities to subscribe to. But that's quite slow if I'm looking for something specific and don't know what server it's on. Also quite a few duplicates.

This community browser is pretty helpful. You'll just need to search for the community within your own instance to subscribe, but I think you probably already figured that part out since you're here.

put the URL in your browser - for example if you wanted to subscribe to lemmyworld@lemmy.world it would be https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/c/lemmyworld@lemmy.world

then just click subscribe!
