Same here. Created a account out of curiosity when the API changes got announced. The last two weeks showed insane growth and completely convinced me that Lemmy (and Kbin) will succeed. Probably not as big as reddit but big enough to be alternative.
I've been here for over a year. Thankful to finally see a lot more content.
5 weeks!
Personally I think lemmy.world was key in driving momentum. After realizing a couple days before the protests started that reddit was not going to change, I started looking for real alternatives. When I found lemmy, I thought I had to join the biggest instance to get a shot at seeing enough content, not understanding how the fediverse worked yet. I imagine it was the same for a lot of people. And the bigger userbase lemmy.world got, the more appealing it was for reddit refugees. Once we got here we now know we can branch out to other instances if needed, but lemmy.world's awesome handling of the user influx absolutely looked appealing to people looking to make the jump, and we shouldn't discount that. Awesome work to @ruud and all the admins he has brought on the team. We appreciate you all.
No, I was late to the party...... Only 26 days, but it feels like a month!
Me too, Lemmy birthday twins!
I’ve been here for a week and I absolutely love it. Reminds me of Reddit when I joined in 2013.
Am I the only one who is worried about that candle getting tipped over and lighting the couch on fire?
I first joined June 18th, so 18 days ago. Then I got curious enough with self-hosting an instance and now I’m at 10 days with my new cake day.
I tried to detox and avoid Reddit during the protest period. After finding out about how all the subreddits were being forced open, I decided to eject from that ecosystem altogether.
I came here after the reddit protest blackout...and never went back.
I came here even before the blackout.
u/spez's "AMA" was the final nail in the coffin for me.
Amen. Haven't looked back.
Almost 2 years here
Ooh, we have a veteran here. ;)
Happy 30 day anniversary.
Personally I only lurked at first, checking out what it was all about before creating an account.
Nah, I have an account on beehaw since before LW existed, but when beehaw defederated from LW I opened an account here, so 3 weeks for me here :)
Actually I had one on lemmy.ml before too, but that was more like looking around.
My first Lemmy account on ML is over 3 years old.
Truly ancient!
A Forerunner
I've heard stories of your kind, but I thought you'd all passed into legend.
raises hand
Thoroughly enjoying it.
Technically I've been on lemmy for 3 years, but that's with my old lemmy.ml account, this one is new and fresh :p
Not quite, but coming up on it.
I've been here for a month now. Really like it. No corps to make money from our conversations!
Originally joined 1 month ago on beehaw . Recently joined reddthat because beehaw has blacklisted lemmy.world which got the most amount of users and communities .
Only two weeks but please let me stay.....please. In all seriousness it's kind of fun watching this place develop. Kind of an old internet vibe.
Two weeks today, loving it here so far ♡
Meeee! *waves*
Do you spray tea everywhere when waving? :p
Some say that's why I never go out in public.
(but really it's because of all the wasps)
Such a sad cat 🥹
3.5 weeks here!
A little over a month for me
Over 2 years with an account on lemmy.ml but the instance is overloaded.
Happy Month Anniversary!
I’m just about to reach a month too. Joined as soon as I heard Reddit was killing Apollo, the main way I used Reddit.
June 17th, almost 3 weeks !
23 days so not quite
According to my profile, I 've been here 23 days.
Been switching accounts every time I learn something new about self hosting, but I've been here about a month as well!
Haven't checked reddit in 2 weeks and I'm not looking back. This place is awesome! Self hosting is awesome!
I think I'm kinda close to a whole month
