I’ve never even thought about the English sounding equivalent until now.

And now I don’t think I’ll ever be able to NOT think about it. God damn it.

[–] wholeofthemoon@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Is it not more like Bon jaw?

[–] nightdice@feddit.de 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Depending on the accent, it may also be closer to bong jewr

[–] tycho 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

What? There is no hard g sound afaik.

[–] shuzuko@midwest.social 3 points 2 years ago

It's more trying to indicate the tongue placement - an N sounds different depending on whether you place it at the front of the tongue or back of the tongue. Back of the tongue is much more nasal, which is frequently associated with French accents, and could sound almost like an "ng" sound to someone less familiar with nasal pronunciations.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

There isn't, but in some regions of France the accent makes it sound like it

Bone jaw money me

[–] helixdaunting@lemm.ee 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I miss the "bone apple tea" subreddit. That and "boot too big" were constant sources of slightly stronger nostril exhalations.

[–] gingernate@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

He boot too big for he god damn feet!

[–] nevial@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 2 years ago

Sorry. Meant to say "It's French for hello, I'm a dumbass"

[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Le speech? What the hell is that?

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's French for die langue

[–] Iron_Lynx@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Which itself is German for de taal

[–] MrMobius@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Replace it with Éloquence and then you've got the perfect meme
