I bet the troll farms still have full access

[-] cowvin@kbin.social 42 points 1 year ago

From what I've read, the troll farms mostly operate funded by Russia but are physically located outside of Russia. For example, Macedonia had quite a few.

Truly a sign of Russian confidence! /s

[-] anonono@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I think it should be a bit worrying for people outside russia too. This is literal practice for a world war scenario. We can meme all you want but I don't like seeing countries crossing items in that checklist.

[-] soEZ@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Would this not be similar to China...although...what are other items do you need to cross off before going to world war? Asking for...ahh... A friend...

[-] HeartyBeast@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

My thought is that this is so they can some kind of crippling attach on global internet infrastructure, without themselves being affected

[-] olbaidiablo@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

This gives everyone a great opportunity to filter out all the IP's that belong to the nefarious element in Russia as they would, no doubt, remain connected.

[-] Dioxy@programming.dev 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

We have the same issue with China, even though ‘nefarious elements’ is country agnostic, those attacking from China, from within the great firewall, still does so, and filtering the nefarious still isn’t trivial. I wouldn’t believe this would be any different, but I have no knowledge about their system, just the assumption that they have adopted a lot of the same techniques and procedures.

Edit: Changed from ‘nefarious people’ to ‘nefarious element’ as mentioned in the comment

Russia trying to emulate North Korea even more.

[-] AveragePigeon@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

I was gonna say, are they trying to speedrun becoming North Korea?

[-] Candelestine@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

Oh I bet that's a real fun version. I want on...

[-] Thitherwards@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

I bet nothing worked as usual

[-] ZILtoid1991@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago

In Hungary, Fidesz tried to impose an internet tax. That was the last time, when the opposition actually happened to get things done.

I wonder what will happen in Russia once all those people lose their access to entertainment, communication, etc...

[-] nobodyspecial@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

Swan Lake is all the entertainment Lapotnaya Rus' needs. The Party will communicate everything, no need for comrades to talk to each other.

[-] androidul@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Nothing. Absolutely nothing because the majority don’t even know what Internet is and the other half are puppets. Smart ones just fled the country at the right time
