BE WITNESS TO MY TWO SNAP PEAS:

I think they're snap peas can't actually remember which ones they are.

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago

A bountiful harvest. I can see another one coming along in the background too.

My snow peas have started to die off already, although there are a couple of later planted ones that just started flowering and are looking good. Hopefully they will keep producing long enough to get me through until the beans start producing.

Been staving off the tiredness with chores for most of today, busy doing some laundry, unpacking, washing the coffee grinder, sticking up command hooks, and mopping the house like it's never been mopped before (the mops got two rounds of machine washing and line drying to get the dirt completely out).

I confess over winter I've neglected mopping for far too long because I was wearing slippers the whole time - and I HATE mopping with the microfibre finger thing tho it does a good job when you do squeeze it out properly. There's areas that might need a fifth go over tomorrow because they still feel oddly sticky. The house definitely feels energetically (?) lighter and better now though. I have one of those spray mops now to (hopefully) make regular mopping easier.

Reheated my defrosted dinner, g&t is made, kicking back for the evening and then catching up on sleep. Don't like overnight flights for this reason...

Just remember less is more with floor cleaner - too much can make your floors sticky.

I'm not sure what happened to the showers and/or thunderstorm that were predicted this afternoon. It's blazing hot out there (in direct sun) with blue skies in all directions. I just put some shade cloth over my outdoor seedling area - there is a difference between "hardening off" and murder. I've also added some shade over the newly transplanted seedlings in the garden which are looking a bit traumatised. Hopefully we get some cloud cover soon or I might have to put some cover over the zucchinis too, they are already looking quite wilted. They will have more shade over summer once the beans grow, but at the moment are in full sun and this is a bit much for them.

I had an egg suicide while making breakfast. I showed Mr Woof, who was completely disinterested. My old dog would have cleaned it up for me in about 5 seconds. Instead I had to use paper towel. Mr Woof is great in his security alarm role, but not good as cleanup crew.

Ha! I just found out that the neonazi Lemmy instance shut down. In August. We were defederated from them, so I don't expect anyone will have missed them.

God damn it. Little dog did bomits on the carpet. Looks like old puke-o has an angry guts. Thank God for the wet & dry vac. Anyway it's a morning problem.

Did they raise the rates again?

I hope not as it could cause a recession this time around.

[-] Mittens_meow@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago

No holiday for us again this year. Missed out for a few years due to Covid, now it’s interest rates. Need a break ffs. My bad for buying a house at the wrong time and not having time to fix rates

ee up we go.

We are still a few basis points below long term average :) and that sucks but at the time it's mean reversion.

I'm not fun at parties.

The ePassport queues at MEL appear to be fuxxored. Massive queues, almost no officials... poo.

Public holiday rates not enough to staff the joint adequately I suspect. (Cries internally in comparison to the efficiency of Changi.)

E: okay it looks like they're in the middle of upgrading the gates and it's progressing at q snails pace...

E2: I got in the one queue where the kiosk broke down lmao

E3: it's broken down twice now and there is a constant stream of confused passengers who don't know where they're supposed to go

E4: the machines keep breaking down lmao this is the worst entry experience I've ever had in Australia πŸ₯²

E5: nearly ~~two hours~~ 1 hr 45 mins after landing I'm finally on a cab out of this blasted airport. Gee it's warm isn't it? But infinitely better than the sauna of Singapore. I'm starving, will have to break out the instant noods when I get back..

[-] bull@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

It's crazy how lucky I must have been when leaving and coming back through MEL for my last trip. Absolutely seamless experiences both ways for me, yet on other days things like this happen.

Welcome back to the country though!

Marketplace really came through this weekend, lots of things out the door with limited annoyances. I had a few portable heaters and dehumidifiers I don't need now the reverse cycle is in, and I wasn't sure how much interest there would be in heaters at this time of year, but everything is gone. Nice to have that space back again.

[-] fullkitwanker@aussie.zone 8 points 10 months ago

Hi, is this still available? Do you deliver?

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

Delivery within 5km is available, at a cost of $80. Payment must be made in advance as this only covers the "yeet it out the window as I drive past" level of service. No returns or refunds available.

This morning I broke my record for quickest commute to work ever, including during the harshest lockdowns. It's like the apocalypse happened overnight. 40 minutes door to door. Wish the roads were like this every day.

I really need some kind of feature on my phone to disable online shopping when any alcohol has been consumed or I've had a hard day. I'm trying really hard not to spend $100+ on cheese right now. Abd I absolutely don't need it.

Got a bolognaise sauce on and did a load of washing. Going to put on some chicken drumsticks (Elder Minipeeler's favourite) and slow cook them for lunch. Mr Peeler has gone to a mate's place for a catch-up.

I know other people like it but I find having a public holiday during the week is a pain in the arse from a food manufacturing point of view. I'll be on the pizza bases tomorrow when it should've been done today. The pasta I should be doing tomorrow will have to be done Thursday.. the whole rest of the week will be rushing to get things done.

[-] oztrin@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

Marge was here and gone in about five minutes, though from the sound of it we now have blazing sun and rain simultaneously.
In other news, only really got up to feed the cats, answer the call of nature and grab a snacky snack, then crashed while curled up in bed with the cats reading and slept for another three hours. I might be tired... No word on the interview so I'm hoping no news is good news. crosses fingers

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago

Shush ... don't speak too soon. Sky over Thornbury is looking nastier by the minute. Radar not looking great either.

In lighter news, there was a monkey NFT party in Hong Kong. Attendees woke up in the middle of the night with extreme eye pain. It turns out the organiser used UVC light usually used to kill germs. It also turns out the same contractor used the same lights some years ago and caused the same problem.

Gosh my TR expires late 2025 and I have to get started on the PR process. Not sure where to start, and every fkn agent wants like $300 for a 30 mins consult. sigh

[Unfortunately my work won't sponsor my visa, i'll have to either find my own way or find another company that will, but at this stage i really don't want to leave my company as it's a really good one]

Went for a drive down the coast from Port Melbourne down to Mordialloc. First time opening my sunroof, it was quite pleasant! I haven't had a car with a sunroof for over 20 years. They're definitely higher quality now than they used to be!
