In 2016, a court acquitted Ammon and his brother Ryan Bundy along with five others, of all charges to their occupation of the Malheur national wildlife refuge in Oregon.

Crazy how right wing terrorists are treated differently from everyone else. These people belong in jail, forever.

[-] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 23 points 11 months ago

I wonder if they would have been treated the same if they werent armed.

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemdro.id 13 points 11 months ago

I believe a fairly wealthy landowner heir as well.

[-] Montagge@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago

One of the most armed of them got shot so I think the skin color is more important

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

Where’s the tear gas and “rubber” bullets? An armed takeover of federal property so they could continue freeloading off government land without paying, yet some unarmed people protesting trying to keep people from being shot or beaten by law enforcement get just that. Shot, beaten, and arrested.

Calling this dipshit an activist is being really generous

[-] Tammo-Korsai@kbin.social 27 points 11 months ago

'Traitor' is a much more fitting term.

The Bundys have been ignored by the law for so long that I'm amazed that any Idaho judge cares.

[-] jeffw@lemmy.world 29 points 11 months ago

And yet he’s also somehow been a quasi-legitimate candidate for office in the past too

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 34 points 11 months ago

True, but criminals whose crimes get ignored is par for the course with Republicans. Look at their champion.

[-] Branch_Ranch@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Yea, he got 17% of the vote for Idaho governor last year as an independent.

[-] Nougat@kbin.social 48 points 11 months ago

Judge Baskin: “Once again, Mr Bundy thinks he can simply say he does not need to be in court. Again, that is not how the rule of law works in this country.”

Yeah, don't you know that you're supposed to file innumerable motions, continuances, and appeals, so that you never actually have to appear? Also, if you run for president, you can just do whatever you want.

[-] twisted28@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

Yep, you can only not show up if you pay for a lawyer first

[-] Nougat@kbin.social 8 points 11 months ago

Nobody ever warned us about the attorney-judicial complex.

[-] twisted28@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I’ve always found it comical lawyers and doctors want thousands of dollars in payment, with no guarantee of success, in the times your life literally depends on it

[-] norbert@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago

"Comical" is a nice way of saying "Extremely fucked up."

[-] billiam0202@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

lawyers and doctors want thousands of dollars in payment

Maybe that is because of this:

in the times your life literally depends on it

What are you gonna do, tell the doctor mid-heart-attack you don't want his services?

Oh, but make sure you call your insurance ahead of time to make sure he's in network. And then shop around to make sure he's the lowest priced one, too- can't have your insurance spending too much on you, right?

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 29 points 11 months ago

This is a traitor not an activist. Hes the cunt he said "This public land just belongs to me. My cattle are gonna be here and you're gonna deal with it." And the government actually backed out of the shoot out. He should be in federal prison. But our corrupt fucken judicial system has republican super PAC shoved so far up its ass the middle finger is coming out their throat.

Idaho judge issues new arrest warrant for ~~far-right activist~~ anti-democracy insurrectionist Ammon Bundy

I fixed The Guardian's title.

[-] 520@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago
[-] jeffw@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

The Bundy family is infamous in its own right without resorting to serial killing. Just anti-government shit like occupying federal lands

[-] ptz@dubvee.org 4 points 11 months ago

AFAIK, neither Ted nor Al nor King Kong.

[-] autotldr@lemmings.world 3 points 11 months ago

This is the best summary I could come up with:

A judge in Idaho has issued a $250,000 arrest warrant for Ammon Bundy, the anti-government activist, after he repeatedly failed to show up in court.

“This court is doing everything in its power to protect Mr Bundy’s rights, to give him an opportunity to confront and cross-examine witnesses, to have his motion to dismiss heard.

In 2016, a court acquitted Ammon and his brother Ryan Bundy along with five others, of all charges to their occupation of the Malheur national wildlife refuge in Oregon.

Bundy’s latest brush with the law follows a court decision earlier this year that found him and other defendant, Diego Rodriguez, guilty of defaming St Luke’s medical center in Boise.

During the trial, an emergency room physician, Rachel Thomas, told the court that the 10-month-old baby was suffering from malnourishment and that its stomach was distended.

It added: “It also affirms the importance of protecting healthcare providers and other public servants from attacks intended to prevent them from carrying out their responsibilities.”

The original article contains 654 words, the summary contains 166 words. Saved 75%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

[-] DarkGamer@kbin.social 1 points 11 months ago

Nice to see comeuppances happen for all these right-wing assholes, but damn it took a while.

[-] donuts@kbin.social 7 points 11 months ago

Bundy has wormed his way out of legal trouble before...

[-] klugerama@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

This is not (yet) comeuppance. That will come when he actually spends time in prison. This is just more of the same legal processes that promise comeuppance but hasn't - so far - delivered any actual results.
