Can confirm

On a related note, it's long been a dream of mine to "download a car" by 3D scanning a nice 1:18 model of something exotic (like a Ferrari 250 Berlinetta Lusso or BMW 507), pay a company to create a full size model by milling it out of a huge block of foam with a huge 5-axis CNC machine, cast fiber glass molds of the body panels, build a spaceframe chassis underneath, fit the rear subframe of a Tesla, and the front axle of a Miata, and live forever in glory.

I've not been here long, but I'm curious how users who were present before the reddit drama feel about any potential changes to the content and tone of discussions.

An interesting article I saw (from 2019) describing the potential intrinsic tendency for decentralized platforms to collapse into de facto centralized ones.

Author identifies two extremes, "information dictatorship" and "information anarchy", and the flaws of each, as well as a third option "information democracy" to try and capture the best aspects of decentralization while eschewing the worst.

Someone said the link is broken so here it is: https://rosenzweig.io/blog/the-federation-fallacy.html

Eric Andre says he finds brushing his hair is too time consuming, when asked about it by Larry King. https://youtu.be/7XR4Ml8FijM (11:45)

This question by Larry to Eric about his hair is mentioned in Eric's interview with Talib Kweli. https://youtu.be/irzhJ4mLMF0 (28:36)

If you're an Eric Andre fan, these are both must-watch interviews.

It's a lot of fun. I remember many years ago Top Gear's website had a game like this.

I'm proud to say I guess the car correctly most days. Sometimes I need assistance by image search or wikipedia to look at e.g. production timelines of manufacturers.

I wish there was a way to track my stats, so I could see if I'm improving, and what my average number of guesses is.

You tell me to take a piss on the deck of the Queen Mary, an hour later they're hosing it off with disinfectant.

Could you potentially export your preferences and list of subscriptions to a JSON file, which you could then supply to a new instance?

I'm scrolling through the front page, expanding the thumbnails of pictures to look at them etc. And then suddenly a bunch of new posts appear at the top of the feed and I lose my place. Also the current thumbnail minimizes.

Does anyone else get this effect?

I'd prefer it to stay static until I hit refresh myself.

EDIT: thanks for the speedy responses. As a new user I'd also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to those running these communities. The inter-compatible federated concept seems truly brilliant, and they must be working very hard to cope with this new influx of users like me.

This is my first comment. I haven't experienced any bugs or lag yet. It all seems pretty cool to me.

I can't profess to know a lot about websites/apps. But I am aware that suddenly having large influxes of users can complicate things, in terms of having to migrate to more powerful hardware, or incorporate load balancers, change to a different type of database, and other architecture changes. It's complicated stuff, even for corporate engineering teams with a lot of resources. IDK who runs this and what exactly the financial structure is, but it appears to be run by volunteers? I personally have patience and sympathies for these people and will reserve judgement for a while.
