It's interesting to see how much nixos grew over the last 2 years, even though the distribution exists since 2003.

The Roquefort (French blue cheese) is made from the mold that grows on rye bread.

So even the moldy bread, in the right condition, can become a delicacy.

Reintroducing mammoths in the arctic could potentially help reduce the climate change.

There is a scientist in Siberia who built the Pleistocene Park. An area where he reintroduced a lot of large herbivores and studied their impact. He's saying that boreal forest have a very low biodiversity compared to mammoth steppes. The steppes have way more animals, are stocking way more carbon in the soil and prevent methane leaks by keeping the permafrost frozen due to the low albedo of the biome.

The problem is that with the mammoths are indispensable to maintain the steppes. They are the only animal big enough to clear up trees, without them the forest is taking over and all the ecosystem of the steppes disappear.

So (according to this scientist), resurrecting the mammoth could revive a whole ecosystem, with a very rich biodiversity and that could have a give impact on the climate.

From what I'm reading the Chevy bolt does not have a heat pump and it seems that most of your commute is just standing still in traffic.

In these conditions it makes sense that range goes down in winter but for longer drive with a more recent EV it's not really an issue anymore.

I barely noticed any difference in range in winter compared to summer with my EV. I have to admit though that winters are quite mild here.

It's from French protest against the labor law reform 8 years ago. The photographer is Stephane Mahe

One thing to know is that in France the police are using tear gas grenades but also "sting ball grenades" (Grenade de désencerclement). These grenades are explosive grenades with hard rubber balls in it.

They can kill you, cause serious injuries and will blow off you hand of you grab them.

This is why grabbing a grenade can be extremely dangerous and using tennis racquets is a way to mitigate a bit these risks.

I know it's not really a truck, it's a preorder and limited to 80km/h but I love the look of this thing and it cost 10800€

I have no doubt that if Europe is threatened they can seriously ramp up the production of military equipment.

I don't have experience with ammunition or things like that but I know for example that a lot of parts for airplane engines are manufactured in factory where both military and civilian parts are produced.

Meaning that if you delay or lower the production of civilian parts you have a lot of extra manufacturing capabilities available immediately for these parts.

Then you can start covering factories, this takes longer ,even during war time, but having a big automobile and aerospace industry means that there are industrial capabilities to mass manufacture equipment that could be used for military purposes.

Yes, a few years ago when I was manufacturing aircraft engines (the LEAP specifically) we had three variants of the same engine.

A, B and C for the Airbus A320 neo, Boeing 737 Max and Comac c919.

I would imagine they use the microphone, accelerometer, some processing power and internet connectivity (WiFi or mobile).

Trying to set up a dedicated hardware with ask that would cost way more than just buying a bunch of pixel phone.

Same for the software, on a smartphone you can just create an app that will record and process all the information vs creating a custom firmware on a custom hardware.

I guess there is also the availability of the technicians.

Finding someone to develop and maintain an android app is much easier than finding someone to maintain a custom hardware/firmware.

I don't think I ever saw any star trek but seeing a picture of him without pointy ears feels weird

A picture of a 3D printed router guide A 3D Model of a router guide

My router (makita) was supplied with a copying guide but the opening was too small.

I've look online but I could not managed to find the right size so I did what any sane person would do: print one

Edit: more pictures of the result a dinosaur shaped observation tower another picture of the observation tower with a kid standing on it

So, I had to reinstall windows as a dualboot, because I need some CAD tools for work. It was painful but it's not thebaubject

I'm running nixos with systemd-boot and I installed windows on another drive. I started to research how to add the entry on the boot list so I don't need to go in bios to switch the boot order each time I want to change OS.

Most of the information I find is about grub on nixos but I finally find information on how to add a manual entry. On the Arch wiki I find some information but now I have to blend all that to make it work on my laptop.

It's late and I'm scared to mess up my boot partition so I go to sleep to work instructions on it the next day.

The next day I'm ready to do all that only to realized that there is already the entry for windows is already in the boot menu, it has been added automatically.

So I spent all this time to think about how I while have to adjust my system manually only to realize that nixos already did it automatically for me.

To be fair they were also using encrypted messaging to talk to each other like WhatsApp and Signal, they even show their mom how to use it which is extremely suspicious.

when the DGSI [a French security agency charged with counter-espionage, counter-terrorism, countering cybercrime and surveillance of potentially threatening groups] has questioned Bastien about what he thinks of Macron. A photograph on his computer is mentioned, which according to them details the President's security arrangements for the July 14th parade. (...)

The device in question (an aerial photo taken from the press) is highlighted in such a way as to draw a dick. A dick.

The link is made with Bastien's passion for drones. The implication is that he could have used a drone to attack this dick-shaped device using explosives.

I'm wanted to share with you the blog that my wife is writing, she's writing about parenting and relationships and she's making some amazing articles !

I believe this is a very good initiative. France is allowing collective self consumption.

It means that in an appartement building or in a neighborhood (up to 2km radius) people can organize in a collective to redistribute electricity to each other. If someone has extra production one day then he can redistribute to other people in the collective. For free or at the price they agreed upon in the collective.

It does not need any extra hardware, it's using the existing installation from the national utility grid.

This is exactly how I imagine a solarpunk community would work.
