An Older Everyday Car UK (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Hi guys, I recently took a trip to Italy to see my friend who purchased a 1997 Mercedes about a year ago, which is extremely comfortable and pretty reliable - he swears by it. We got into a chat about advantages, reliability and comfort of the older over newer cars and he got me kinda excited to get into classic motoring. I currently have a 2017 Honda Civic for which I pay a pretty penny every month (its a lease) and my contract runs out in two years. I started looking around for a classic alternative I could maybe get outright cash in hand or with a little help from a financing company. I see a lot of Jaguars XF and X-Type on the streets of UK, I looked them up on autotrader and they can go for anything from about 2k to 10k depending on the milage etc. - still about 5k less than price sticker of my Civic. So here is the question - is it worth looking into? What models/makes I could look into? What should I be aware of? Any tips? Tricks? I’m looking to expand my family in the coming years so a 3 doors sports car are out of the question :) Thanks

Comm System Advice (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Hi guys I just bought an HJC I71 helmet and because its a bit tighter fit then my previous helmet, I wont be able to use my IsoTune earphones anymore. I looked into getting a comm system for this purpose and a guy at my local shop recommended Cardo. Im split between Freecom 2x or going down the integrated route with HJC 21b. Can you recommend any of these or advise against? Thanks

First Big Bike (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Hi all

Im happy to report that I recently passed my full motorcycle license. Ive been riding for a good couple of years on my 125 and im itching really hard to buy my first big bike.

Found this Suzuki Bandit very local to me and I was wondering if maybe somebody could advise.

Im having second thoughts because its a big engine and because its pretty old.

I was thinking about trying to get this bike down to 2000

Thanks in advance

Something like Type R (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Hi all I currently have a Honda Civic 2017 (a regular one) but I always wanted a Type R. Looking at used cars market in my country, they are a bit out of my reach at the moment :D Could you recommend any other Japanese cars, that could scratch that itch but not destroy my wallet? Have to be family friendly too as I expect kids :D Cheers

Hi all,

I bought a Sinclair ZX81 on a garage sale some days ago for around 12 USD as a non-tested item as the guy said he had no wires to even try and run it. I have a couple of RF cable kicking about from my Atari 2600 and ZX Spectrum, so I have this basis covered.

According to the manual LINK it takes 9V 700mA unregulated (I'm not sure what it means) 3.7mm jack power supply. I have a 9V DC 1A jack power supply I bought for the Atari (it's not an original one - a unbranded one) and I tried to use it, but to no success. Manual tuning my TV same as with Spectrum and Atari, and no signal.

I was wondering if maybe the power supply is not up to spec? I was thinking that maybe 1mA is too much to power it up? But I went online to look for an unbranded ZX81 power supply and they are running 2A so I'm not sure what's going on here.

Is it busted? Or should I get one of those unbranded power supplies that say they are made for ZX81 to test it?

Thanks :)

It really breaks my mind. And the actual biggest progress is in the last 150 years. And how things accelerated in the last 30..

Correct answer is sitting.

Three scenarios:

No legs folded - standing

Rear legs folded - sitting

All legs folded - laying down

I, for one, support Just Stop Oil. Any form of fighting, raising awareness or disruption to tackle the global warming and pollution issue that so many of us shrug off. We take too much for granted.

Growing up in Eastern Europe I had a romanticised picture of USA and I always wished I grew up there.

Only until years later I realised how privileged I was not having to worry about the student debt, medical insurance and gun violence...

In my experience, old age only amplifies person's traits - if you were nice, you are going to be extra nice because of all the stress leaving your day to day. If you were a cunt, you are going to be extra cunty because now you will be blaming people left and right for all the errors in your life. That's my experience though.

It's such a shame - I used Reddit for many years and found so many helpful people that helped me with many things - fixing my motorbike, improving my 3D prints or saving my plants. I hope we can establish similar kind of community in the Fediverse.

I guess that's what we get for trusting too much in a company - decentralised open source software is way to go. Even if somebody in this particular instance will go fucking insane and will decide to raise it to the ground, whatever, the project lives on and you can just go somewhere else.
