yeah why did he make kai a greaser punk? kai is just kind of a loser who isn't immediately willing to throw himself into battle but grows up when he has no other choice. he wasn't leading a gang and forcing amuro to help him break into military bases
mobile suit gundam (1979)
these two basically INVENTED the yaoi doujin scene, the people simply love toxic situationships. and the sequels live up to that legacy, char's counterattack especially
when they get to it you should watch episode 3, which is char doing toxic schoolboy yaoi with garma for an hour (in addition to revealing that yas thinks the way he killed garma was char's super move). it's very fun, the rest of it is pretty whatever
say what you will about yas, but the man can draw a comic!
i will be honest i didn't even process the dicks
I showed my sister, a yaoi fanatic, Gundam: The Origin, and she dropped it once she realized Char was just going to "kick and kill" instead of "fucking and sucking" his way to the top. "If he's not called the Red Comet because he runs around buck-naked after taking it raw in the ass, I'm not interested."
this video is the only worthwhile thing to come from the origin
huh. this experience is just like revolutionary girl utena
and yeah you should torrent it or buy the blu-rays if you can afford them (there's 3 and they're like 50$ each)
it's like THE gay anime. it's the one that gets referenced most, people still talk about it 27 years later, it gets mentioned in every list people make of "here's 10 anime that have gay people in them!", it's the best one by a country mile, and now the only legal way to watch it is to spend hundreds of dollars on the blurays or watch it in 480p on youtube (which is a crime given how pretty it is)
one piece is good but i would like to just say don't expect too much from its politics. there is an arc where the heroes restore a settler colonial government, and most arcs are about restoring the rightful king to his throne. it might not be what someone looking for good politics is looking for!
the single best show of all time imo. has an understanding of power structures and dynamics that makes it truly stand out as a masterpiece
lotta content warnings, the big ones are below but if there's anything you're worried about ask and i'll let you know if its there. if you like evangelion you can almost certainly handle it, but it's worth mentioning
the big content warnings
incest, child sexual abuse, grooming, gaslighting, the violent enforcement of the patriarchy (including misogyny, gender roles, homophobia, etc)
watch utena!
~~more to come later~~
i assume you're already aware of most of these, but they aren't on your watched list
- for gundam that you seem to have not watched: ibo and turn a are both fantastic, the two best in the franchise imo
- millennium actress is one of the best movies of all time, rip satoshi kon
- ghost in the shell stand alone complex is a great show that really lives up to the movie
- votoms is a classic 80s mecha anime with some great stuff. the post series ovas are especially great
- patlabor is great, the first movie is just one of the best techno thrillers ever made
- dallos is the first ova ever and also by mamoru oshii, it's a sci-fi spin on the battle of algiers about a colonial miners rebellion
- showa genroku rakugo shinju is just a fantastic quiet drama about a closeted gay man coming of age in the art scene of post-war japan
