Facebook canning groups are a great idea, as someone else mentioned. Them little old ladies can do pretty amazing things on short notice. Can I suggest hitting up local churches? The methodists, Episcopal and baptists are all particularly fond of doing drives and such, and may be able to do an impromptu canning drive for y'all

Oh, well then I wouldn't approach him for a whole new variety of reasons!

I mean, I wouldn't, because he's way out of my league, and probably straight, and most likely he's busy right now, or waiting on someone, and the music in here is really loud, so he probably wouldn't be able to hear me well enough to chat because I'm soft spoken...

That's one of the reasons I didn't comment on the post itself, and only replied to another person. Because I can't quite tell which way OP was leaning on that, and I didn't want to be uncharitable.

I'm a communist. I don't mean to say I'm here because of the leftist population (though, that is nice sometimes, but as in any lefty heavy place there's infighting and bullshit), but rather I have certain values that guide my decision making process, and one of them is not supporting massive corporations and shitty services when possible. Lemmy is an alternative to reddit that doesn't benefit the same class of people as reddit, while actively benefiting the people who actually use it.

I feel like ever since the term shifted from "gay liberation" to "gay pride" it has hindered the movement in a lot of ways. Liberation tells you what this is about, pride tells you... You're proud? Good for you. Lots of people are proud, but not all people need liberation (or, at least, not everyone thinks they need it).

I vote we go back to calling it Liberation, and instead of bickering over why people are at the queer event and not a workers event, we start organizing monthly or bimonthly events, a queer/LGBT liberation event, a women's liberation event, a worker's liberation event, Hispanic Liberation event... Let's pepper the calendar with parties and parades and protests while drilling into people's minds that we are all deserving of respect, autonomy, and liberation.

Not sure how well I said all that. I'm about 5 boozy horchatas in, and I hate to do the "as a gay man" thing, but I feel like I should mention I am, in fact, a gay, and I quite enjoy pride and what it stands for

"Elon has too much government information to go to Russia!"

Y'all, please, listen, Russia already has our government information. The important thing to note here is that whether Elon runs off to Moscow or not, Russia making the offer may well drive a wedge between Russia and Trump. That, in and of itself, is good news. Trump has very few political allies at this point, with most of the world turning against him and trusting the US less. If he is even further alienated, there's a decent chance his party loses reelection or refuses to go along with his insane 3rd term plans. It'll take us a long time to rebuild international goodwill, but alienating Trump is a good thing.

Happy to proven wrong is there's an aspect I'm not considering here, but in my mind when the fascist fight each other it's good for the rest of us. Makes them easier to tackle, especially if the nonfash (and specifically the left) can unify.

I had one, and it was great for listening to my CDs when I was laying in bed, but if I had to actually walk anywhere I took my walkman and a bookbag full of tapes (half of which were books on tape and not actual music lol). Dealing with the skipping was just too damn irritating. Walkman was the clear winner for my use case

It's about 800 fahrenfeet

I was gonna say, this isn't unique to the USSR, or even to openly authoritarian states. It's the oldest trick in the book, it seems :/

Hey, folks, I was just curious if there were any Episcopal (USA) lemmings around here? I've recently begun attending a small episcopal church, after having not been to church since the pandemic began. Before that, I'd only been to church a few times in the last couple decades. I've been really enjoying the episcopal church, and while my own personal belief system isn't 100% in line with theirs, they're one of the closest groups to my own thinking.

I liked the episcopal subreddit before I left that site, and was wondering if anyone has any interest in making a Lemmy community, or if there was one I'm not familiar with.

Hey, folks.

I'm not sure if this is a Jerboa question or a Lemmy question, but is it possible to (or possible to implement) search within a community?

For instance, on this community, I would have loved to have had a search field to search "search" and it only searched the Jerboa community, so I can make sure I'm not reposting something someone else has already asked. It would make it a lot easier to find information, especially in communities geared towards advice or niche information.

I'm not a techy person, though, so apologies if this is something very difficult to implement or a feature that's already there and I'm overlooking it.

Thanks!

Hey, folks! I'm fairly new to hot teas. I've been very much so enjoying my English and Irish breakfast teas, Earl Grey, and a few other Walmart specials. But I find that I think most of them taste weak, and i use multiple bags. I'd like to try a loose leaf, and maybe something a little stronger. I'm not a fan of green tea for the same reason, it feels weak/watery. I'm a US southerner, so I guess I sort of ruined myself to tea strong enough to get out the pot and slap you. Haha.

Can anyone recommend a sampler of stronger teas? I have a fancy kettle that you can set the temperature on if they need some specific temp, as I know some teas do.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Game Recommendation? (startrek.website)

Edit

Sorry I haven't replied to anyone, life got a little crazy. I did not expect this many replies on lemmy! Thank you everyone, and I will be checking out a bunch of these! Thank you so much. :) I really appreciate it.

So, I hope this allowed, if not, I'll remove.

I have a small problem, y'all. I'm a filthy casual, and don't game often. But right now, due to a lot of very stressful things going on, I'm having trouble sleeping. I'd like a game I can play on the deck for an hour or two at night to get sleepy. Here's where the hard part comes in:

It's gotta be cheap (25 or less)

It needs to be not-stressful to play, as in, it works well on the deck, with no fiddling, because I am a dumb and don't understand things

I don't actually know what kind of game I want. I don't care for FPS games, I don't have the time/patience/money for online multiplayer stuff, and I'm not super in super heavy action games.

I like puzzles, platformers, laid back games. Open world is great. Very small games are fun, but I need something that I can play pretty much every night for a while. I loved portal and the Stanley parable, but I'm burnt out on TSP and I've played both portal games several times. I need something with a little more longevity.

Can anyone help with this not at all reasonable request?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm curious about something. I've seen there's a big debate about multiple communities for similar content on different instances, and whether they should coalesce into a single community or remain as multiple communities. I also saw a post about linking sibling communities with automatic cross posting and stuff. I'll level with y'all, I understand coding about as much as I understand wtf quantum foam is. So I don't know how likely that is, or how easy it would be to implement.

But why couldn't we just link to sister communities in the community sidebar. Like reallycoolawesomestuff@lemmy.world could just have a link to reallycoolawesomestuff@lemmy.ml in the sidebar, and vice versa?

I haven't seen any of the communities I frequent do this, and I just wonder why. If both communities did it, it would likely increase the user base of both, wouldn't it?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just loving on lemmy lately, and wish it were easier to quickly find related communities.

I'm not sure if this is the right community or not, but I'm curious what y'all would think if they came out with a new show set in the Enterprise era. Ent is one of my favorite shows, and I always felt like we got screwed out of some really compelling TV when they ended they stopped making Trek after ENT ended. That era of humanity, the coalition of planets, the filling in of details on humanity's early relationship with the Vulcans. Plus, it has denobulans, and we need more denobulans.

So, I guess I'm just curious if I'm in the minority or not. Would any of y'all be excited if they announced a show in that era?
