Although we have surely become more comfortable with cameras around us more often, if I remember correctly what freaked people out was that there wasn’t a visible indicator when Google Glass was recording.

Had Google added a tiny red LED next to the camera, it would’ve been different.

I think you hit the nail. Although other members also read from the teleprompter at some point (such as Linus), Terren was doing it awkwardly the whole time, you can tell he’s not used to be in front of a camera.

To be fair though, sincerity without empathy is just assholeness. There are way to many people justifying their asshole behaviors with “being sincere”.

Not to make you more anxious about it, but I have a story you’re not going to like:

Back in uni, several years ago, I went to the movie theater with a couple friends. Being the broke ass students we were, we didn’t buy anything to eat or drink while watching the movie.

Anyway, we were searching for our seats when all of a sudden we saw an abandoned tray with a popcorn and soda, completely untouched, so we took it.

I had told the story about the abandoned tray in the movies a couple times since as a nice thing that happened to me. Until last month, when I was telling the story to my wife and her parents, and they said “what if the owner went to the bathroom before the movie started”.

That’s when I realized that me and my friends didn’t find the tray, but rather someone possibly went to the bathroom only to come back to their seat and find their food/drinks stolen.

That’s what you get from being the most popular instance I guess.

All in all, I would like to have a bit less circlejerk and start having more diverse content.

Don’t get me wrong, all the beans and old memes is helping a lot with keeping the platform alive and with constant activity, but I think at some point we need to start posting more stuff and make Lemmy more friendly and attractive to newcomers.
