So today we'll know if Vingegaard has a chance this tour, if he can follow Pog up Hautacam he'll stand a chance in the third week.

Judging her for that is fine, not for her nude modeling.

At the very least he will sleep worse, which will hurt his restitution. So it's decent news for Visma, though I don't think they wished for it it's part of cycling to race in a way which pushes the other teams and riders to take risks and sometimes the result is a crash.

I just watched it again and you're right πŸ™‚

It's probably not anyone's fault, but typically riders will follow each other's movement so it does not happen. But it happens a lot, so... Just a part of racing.

Just read that Vingegaard and the others waited for him, fair play to them.

Looked to me like he crashed himself on the back wheel of an UnoX rider.

I mean, we're also obese. But your other points stand 😁

Yes, but what else are you going to do?

Apparently, Vingegaard cannot beat him on punchy climbs (though he's coming closer), and if you attack him at the wrong time the tour will be over before stage 10.

It's boring because Pog is too dominant, not because Vingegaard is a coward. Same goes for the rest of the season with all the 50-80k solo attacks.

The overall strategy, it seems, is to ride hard and stressful every day to push the UAE domestiques and tire out Pog who's theorized to have slightly poorer restitution than Vingegaard.

Presumably, Vingegaard will then get the upper hand in the third week on mountain stages which suit him better than today's finish which was still explosive.

Right, yes that was common, being named after the farm. Interesting family story πŸ™‚

Though, being Danish, I have a national duty to say that Denmark didn't conquer Norway, it was inherited by a king around 1400 and then developed into a full union in 15-something when the Swedes left the Kalmar Union. It was a dual monarchy, effectively one country, ruled from Copenhagen and standard Danish was no more forced on the Norwegians than it was forced on other Danes speaking a dialect of Danish.

The union was dissolved in 1814 when Napoleon (who was allied to Denmark), lost his wars and Norway was given to Sweden. After 100 years under Swedish rule, Norway was finally independent.

It's been something of a national need in Norway to emphasize all the bad things under the dual monarchy, but in truth Norwegians and Danes were completely equal. Look up any major historical or cultural figure from the era and there's a good chance he came from what is now Norway, most of the navy was Norwegian and so on. I understand the need to find someone to other so that the national identity grows stronger, but it's a pity it's become a narrative of Danish exploitation when that's completely false.

I say equal, that goes for the political class and nobility, the peasants in both countries were of course almost completely powerless πŸ˜‰

I can't think of what Norwegian name it's supposed to be a Danish pronunciation of, tbh. Severin?

... dunno how mega it will turn out to be, but in any case; this is the thread to talk about national championships in!

Paradox Interactive has announced that its next grand strategy game is Europa Universalis 5, following a tease posted last week.

It's the first (and often best) GT of the season!
