To answer a few points, my mother is in her 90s. She is not suffering from dementia, but she doesn't deal well with not getting her way. She throws tantrums in public. So it is easier just to go along with her wishes. One of my sisters had the police called on her for elder abuse once because my mother was throwing such a fit about how mean her daughter was to random strangers. Edit: if you've seen the episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Lois's evil mother comes to visit, and they call the police on her when she refuses to leave, and she plays the pity card to the cops and almost gets Hal arrested? That's my mother.

This trip was the first time I had seen her in 2 years. I took her to the casino with the agreement that I would wait outside, but of course she pretended to be looking for me in the casino, security called me thinking she was lost, and when I went in she insisted we go eat there rather than heading back to the vacation rental.
