Once again, this is a feature, not a bug. Two different servers, two different communities, united by a common communication protocol. This is what separates Lemmy from other Reddit clones, and what made it thrive, unlike non-federated sites who are either splintered and languishing, or attracting an unsavory audience.

In my defense, a lot of people (sheeple) are unfamiliar with the term (I am a lemming).

And what would be those "trade secrets"? The ability to make posts and have them being read by other people? I'm pretty sure every forum software since the '70s has prior art. Elons fragile narcissism know no bounds.

Oh look, it's almost as Meta is an untrustrworthy actor that plans to EEE the fediverse. I consider any instance that federates with Meta a lost cause, to be defederated as well.

Let's be frank, how many bong rips do you have before coming to this conclusion?

While I understand that some people like video content, the absolute saturation of low quality clips, culminating in TikTok sludge has been detriminal to the quality of online discourse. Not everything needs to be TV 2.0, and I would like for the Fediverse to avoid the dreaded "pivot to video" for as long as possible.

You are experiencing the joy of breaking away from corporate silo internet dominated by shills, trolls and paid posts.

I had over 10k karma on my old account, it is a meaningless feature and a sign that you need to touch grass.

The way things are going R*ddit is going to become what Digg is today - a minimalist editor run link agreggator

[-] JerkyIsSuperior@lemmy.world 38 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

One of the major flaws of R*ddit was the upvote/karma feature, which turned posting into a performance and a popularity contes, as you've mentioned. I hope as Lenny and the fediverse develops, we can shed those features in favor of a more simple and equitable system.
