Honourable mention to Grasshopper Manufacture for being weird and fun

  1. FromSoftware because if Dark Souls 2 is your worst game (by popular opinion) in the last 15 years you're doing a good job. Sekiro is also my favourite combat system in any game.

  2. Remedy, I love their use of mixed mediums with FMV scenes like Dr. Darling's tapes in Control. Alan Wake 2 is also a masterpiece of a game and I love how far they push what they are able to do in each game.

  3. Paradox because no one does map game and number go up like they do. Victoria 2 is the first game I played from them and I've played everything since (the only map game I don't like is HOI4)

If the international boxing community can't form a new international governing body by early 2025 it will not be in the 2028 olympics. I'm assuming it will be the same for every olympics after that until they form something

I remember being a kid in Catholic school and learning about how saints have to have 3 miracles attributed to them to be canonized. At that age I was like okay I can buy this guy Jesus was doing miracles 2000 years ago but theres no way saints are doing all these miracles constantly in the modern day that's just silly

Not trans, just has a higher than average testorone level. Which could be due to a myriad of genetic factors

I'm so fucking tired of this discourse, besides the very obvious transphobia that the Brits love, at this point it's thinly veiled sexism that the only women competing should be visibly stereotypically feminine. Which you know, runs counter to the required muscle mass to compete in these sports. Then you've got the factor that the women targeted in these tirades are often times POC so it's checking even more bigotry boxes.

With their collapsing economy and lack of import in global politics, the purpose of TERF island appears to be acting as a bigotry factory exporting their shit takes to the rest of the world.

Setting up following this guide: https://mullvad.net/en/help/shadowsocks-android

And I have everything in OpenVPN and Shadowsocks set up like they say, but when I try to connect to the Shadowsocks server I get the error "Failed to detect internet connection: connection closed". The upload/download shows I can upload at ~30 kbps but no download.

I'm on MIUI 14 which may be the problem because I know it has some issues with...everything really... But I turned off power saver so it should be allowed to run in the background

And not in a good way.

The movie is written by Nick Pinkerton, who I've never heard of before but is apparently associated with the Red Scare Pod in some way. The movie is a mumblecore surrealist comedy loosely based on Alice in Wonderland, where the main character travels through different parts of the United States and meets different characters. It's got some funny parts and it held together well enough in the beginning but it starts to drag by the second vignette and really starts to broadcast where it leans politically.

The main character essentially acts listlessly throughout the entire movie and calls things and people ableist slurs. While other characters are supposed to...I guess represent different political positions in the US? I don't really know what the point was meant to be, but the vibe is "caring about things is dumb". There's four main vignettes which boil down to the following:

spoiler

  1. A group of anarchists that never actually profess any political beliefs besides not working and eating food from the garbage. The main anarchist character is immediately shown to b a sex pest and the group then goes out to a field to fight Nazis that aren't there. (This is the only representation of the political left in the movie)

  2. An academic Nazi who takes in our main character and lets her live in his house. He is given ample time to espouse his ideas and does not attempt to sleep with the main character which is shown to be a big deal. She lives with him as a tradwife for some time, and is like happy with it I think? But eventually runs away

  3. Two New York film makers who are making a period piece. Sorry I really don't know what this one was trying to say it just felt random, but the film shoot ends when Nazis shoot everyone.

  4. An Arabic guy who saves the main character from the shooting, but oh no! It turns out he's locking her away to be his wife and also he lives in a terrorist training camp.

And then finally the writer of the movie shows up as a Catholic monk to save the main character and talk about miracles for some reason.

Maybe I don't get it because I don't really vibe with this kind of art. But genuinely this movie was pretty boring and it feels gross when you know the politics behind it. I will give them credit though, I was anticipating a TERFy joke the entire movie and I didn't catch one.

Went to see Challengers last night (good movie btw) and before the movie they played the most unhinged ad I've ever seen. It was AI generated children talking about being victims of the holocaust. It straight up looked like one of those ai tiktok slop stories that bot farms make. Something about a giant image of a child talking about gas chambers while their eyes shifted unnaturally and gazed into nothingness really made me uncomfortable.

Apparently it was to encourage Holocaust education?? Just absolutely terrible execution

I haven't been able to find the ad online yet but if anyone does feel free to share with the class

If you're into the idea of a John Wick esque action movie where Dev Patel fights the BJP and RSS then I really recommend this.

It doesn't outright name the BJP but it's pretty obvious. It's also got some good commentary on land seizures, along with the treatment of indigenous and Muslim communities in India. Also some good representation of the Hijra community which I haven't seen mentioned in much Western media

The Toronto police have charged a man with a hate crime after he waved a PFLP flag at a protest this is pretty unprecedented and blatantly biased considering how often you see chuds flying Confederate flags in rural areas of the country with no one stopping them

I was laughing super hard throughout this movie and I think it'd go over well here, it has a similar sense of humour to a lot of we post. It's also great to see something unapologetically queer that's not just a sad or serious movie

So the Canadian government passed a law in June that would require Meta and Google to pay news organizations for news content that is featured on their websites. Essentially acting as a kind of "link tax" for tech companies, justified by the use of content from these news organizations that appears on Facebook, Instagram, and Google (thumbnails, bylines, etc). In response Meta has blocked all Canadian news from appearing on their websites along with non-news websites from Canada like The Beaverton and Walking Eagle News (The Canadian and Indigenous versions of the Onion). You can read more here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_News_Act

https://www.parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bill/44-1/c-18

So I can see potential pros and cons of this legislation.

Pros:

I hate Google and Meta and this will make them lose money which I'm always a fan of.

This could help news organizations that have more leftist or more Indigenous focused reporting fund their work, considering those organizations don't have much funding to begin with in Canada.

The current blocking of news on Meta could help move people away from getting their news on there from sites like The Rebel

It will help ensure the survival of Canadian based news and help stave off even more American corporate and cultural hegemony over the country

Cons:

The majority of the money from this program will go towards the Postmedia owned news networks and further entrench their neoliberal worldview

What do you think about the bill?

The idea that media companies in the the west are subservient to the interests of capital and the military industrial state isn't even a "tankie" take on the left. Similar ideas have been espoused by many people across the left, the most famous of which being Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky.

Also I've been checking in on some juvenile Bald Eagles near me here's a picture I could get of one:
