I think here it is more a determinant of trot vs Leftcom. Trots are generally supportive if critical, Leftcoms say Cuba's armchair production maintains the commodity form.

Yeah, I agree. I will say Beyond the Stars does a lot of heavy lifting and the love scenes are a admirable failure. It's hard to show two damaged people who are bad for each other genuinely in love without the jarring stilted tone shifts. A better dialogue writer than Lucas (who isn't a bad storyteller but is so visual it's hard to fix) could have done it.
At least until the final third. Despite zombie Leia that scene of the ordinary rebels passing on the plans as Vader tears through them hits much harder now you know the rebellion grew via the same desperate sacrifice. It's like poetry, it rhymes.
If they just reshot the same scenes with the same actors now they're more in the roles you'd probably fix much of the film.

The pilot in Rogue would have found it but Saw and Mothma were not exactly on speaking terms. I like how they make the main alliance so much of a squabbling Trot newspaper group that they need to learn about the plans 5 different ways before acting. Leaves space for some of the legends stories like the first mission of Dark Forces.
