I've tried and gaming is a lot better than it was, but I still prefer Windows in that department though I do stick with SteamOS for the Steam Deck and haven't bothered running Windows on it.

Freetube has been the most headache free experience for me, since I don't need to worry about getting my account banned if YouTube doesn't like Adblock or having to fiddle with ublock. It allows importing of your feed too.

The complaint is seeking class-action certification on behalf of people who bought a 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, or 4TB SanDisk Extreme Pro, SanDisk Extreme, or Western Digital My Passport SSD that was "designed, manufactured, distributed, promoted and/or sold" since January 2023.

Looks like this is for people who've purchased the drives since January 2023. So does it not affect people from before?

Isn't Apple involved in ads too?

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/08/15/apple-reportedly-plans-to-put-ads-in-more-apps-on-your-iphone.html

In my use of iOS it was harder to avoid ads, since apps didn't have a warning like 'Contains ads'. And it not allowing side loading meant it was harder to find foss alternatives. Of course compared to Android they are way better when it comes to privacy, but I'm sure how truly private they are since they are collecting data all the same.

That shout out to lemmy by teddit and libreddit was really nice.

Just the requirement of requiring Instagram to sign up for threads and use of their app with so many permissions should be enough of a red flag for those unaware of meta's history.

Not to mention the data mining being done is an issue with Google and Meta too. And this isn't to excuse tiktok. It's to say that Google and Meta have to start being put in check too, since it's all getting so out of hand that isn't no longer just concerns of specific nations. It's an international concern that we are all in together regardless of where we are from and what international or domestic company we are dealing with.

You can't even pay for YouTube premium to stop treating you like the product for example, since your viewing and browsing habits will be data mined anyways. The phrase if you don't pay you are the product has ceased to be relevant. We are the product no matter how much we pay and no true opt out. Even just the contact lists people keep and use with messenger apps are uploaded exposing our personal numbers and names to services of companies we don't even use.

Switch her to FreeTube on desktop. Can still subscribe to keep a list of channels she likes, but won't get the YouTube algorithm recommendations on the home page.

For mobile something like newpipe for the same algorithm removed experience.

Like what there is for dolphin, but should be more straightforward with everyone having the same specs.

Firefox has a link that goes to their sister kbin community, but you don't see it until you click chat with us. So I don't think lot of people knew /r/firefox has gotten set up on the fediverse.

Default active showed too many old posts in the feed that never disappeared.

Hot was a little better, but still put too much weight on upvotes and comments leading to several day old posts showing up consistently despite all the communities I had subscribed to.

So what I've settled on for now has been new and top day, which has now been showing more new content instead of posts being buried.

SSD drives have been getting cheaper, so been looking into it.

Something I found is that while you can see activity of local communities in your instance like for example a lemmy.world user on lemmy.world. If they go somewhere else like lemmy.world/c/privacyguides@lemmy.one that's pretty much all you'll be aware of aside from what someone from lemmy.world pull so it shows up on /c/all

You have to tab open and see lemmy.one to get the picture of the instance as a whole to see what is the activity local to it.

This makes it harder to find new communities and also for new communities to grow. And doesn't help that when you view a community for the first time after someone subscribed for the first time it doesn't pull all the comments, so it looks like there's no activity.

So it would be nice if there was a quick toggle to do a view from your instance and then a view from the instance the content actually originated on.

Wanted to also mention fedia.io/m/firefox is the sister Kbin community to /r/firefox

Any Android apps that are recommended? And are there instance types for making Matrix too, and if so any that are recommended?

14

Even if it doesn't automatically resubscribe you I'm guessing lot of people as they use lemmy or kbin will be moving around from instances a lot.

So being able to keep track of which communities to resubscribe to would be really convenient to have.

I've liked Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassination Classroom. Cool with any genre you guys have to recommend, since I enjoyed stuff like Zombieland Saga too.

I played Xenoblade Chronicles and had heard the system of Xenoblade 2 is lot more complicated.

I started with the Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy which I enjoyed a lot.

And I was told to watch these series in order next

  • Zeta Gundam
  • Double Zeta Gundam
  • Char's Counter Attack
  • Hathaway's Flash Part 1

It's their responses that made me decide to nuke my reddit comments instead of leaving it.

And if there is a migration tool from onenote to the alternative that would be even better.
