there are a lot of leftists outside of edgy internet communities like ours who won't be willing to extend sympathy to him.

I wonder how many of these leftists also don't extend sympathy to Gaza or take a sympathetic position towards Israel. What people choose to put their energy into supporting or condemning is sometimes very telling.

Now imagine what they do to the people who Americans have decided deserve it, who will never get a chance to tell their story.

Tbf when was the last time any western media cared about factual accuracy. The only reason we should care about this is because if it comes out it's fake, every asshole in the west will point to it as "evidence" each time they want to claim something China says is fake. But they'll probably do that regardless.

In terms of factual accuracy, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I'll start caring about the factual accuracy of aid drops when the west starts caring about the factual accuracy of Israel bombing hospitals and killing children.

I think sadly there's been a concentrated effort in the UK from the likes of Paul Marshall and other right wing shitstains to import US culture war nonsense to the UK, and it's been broadly successful. GB News launched in 2021, which people described as the UK's Fox News, and now 4 years later, we're seeing Reform take elections. It's not a coincidence, it's a forced ideological shift.

The problem is that the left does not have the hundreds of millions of pounds to match this level of brainwashing. That's why the liberals and the right have controlled UK politics for the last 40 years. We saw exactly how they crushed Corbyn before with their collective might, and as long as they control the mainstream media unopposed, they will crush any new left party that emerges too.

Every country on the planet would retaliate against the US to try and keep it contained to North America. A lot of them know that, which is why it wouldn't surprise me to see more alliances spring up in opposition to NATO while NATO itself starts to disband.

Sorry for sounding like a doomer, but every single time I expect countries to do the right thing - and every single time rational minds say the rational thing - the world seems to do the opposite. Is there any actual evidence that other counties would challenge US hegemony in any scenario?

We're already en route to destroying our planet and people aren't doing jack about that. I've gotten to the point where I'm pessimistic that if the US decides it wants the world to burn in a nuclear holocaust, other countries won't just let it happen. The way things are going, many might nod along and say it's a great idea.

That makes it sound like they just began their 10 year modernization of their military... which is less reassuring.

Which is it? Which do you use? Are there different associations between them?

I've always said it "comrad," but when I started to meet people in orgs, they predominantly say "comrayd" (within the same country).

One of the few celebrities I knew and cared about because I grew up watching Charmed, still one of my favourite shows to this day, before I stopped watching TV. Shannen died on 13th July of cancer.

And all I can think is... man, she was kind of a piece of work. She had been battling cancer for almost a decade on and off and I suppose had a long time to grapple with her mortality and come to terms with it. And in the end, it seems like what she chose was pettiness and bitterness.

She had a "long" list of people who weren't invited to her funeral, because they wouldn't be coming for "the right reasons." She reignited a feud in the Charmed community with Alyssa Milano, using her cancer as the reason she had to "get the truth out" about a television show 25 years after the fact. She finalised her divorce with her husband one day before her death, ~~presumably to prevent him from inheriting anything.~~ The last one is contentious because who knows what was happening behind closed doors but still, that's definitely one last 'fuck you.'

It makes me sad that she was filled with so much hate and bitterness that even in her dying moments, she only chose to amplify the bad than forgive and make peace. I'm not at all religious but I think it's a very human thing to want to seek peace and reconciliation in the end, before you can't anymore, and I was a little stunned to see her choice be to go out in a blaze of bitterness.

That's it. There's not really any point to this. I was just stunned. I never knew her and don't have any right to judge her, and I'm not, really, deep down. It's just something that made me a little sad and that I don't really understand. People sure are strange.
