You are born in the very very very best stretch the human race has ever known.

We have solutions for almost every problem which exists today.

Wars are at an historical low point.

Chances are good you've never been even experienced war first hand.

Housing is expensive, yes. But chances are you're reading this on a couch or bed in a home, heated (or cooled), with a working stove, light at night and a fridge with edibles in it. And lets not talk about your immediate almost unrestricted access to all of human knowledge.

That would be unbelievable, impossible even during 99.9% of human history. (Or somewhere near this figure)

You should stop doomscrolling and start reading the real human history.

All of human knowledge at your fingertips. And this is what you chose to distill from it.

I've a creative air thingy headphone. Great device. It comes with the sweetest asian female voice you can imagine.

So yes. It's so Lovely. It's the voice accompanying all your (manga) waifu dreams.

Too bad you can't really understand what she says. But who cares, right?

It's the whole "I'll fall out of the sky if I go any slower with this delta wing" thing.

To create enough lift on a smaller wing you'll have to go fast. A delta wing (v shape at the back) like on the Concord and almost all fighterjets makes it easier to go fast. They just suck at going slow.

Add to that the " go faster!" Engines and you'll get a very loud plane.

A Concorde was for all intents and purposes just a very large fighterjet.

What I think:

If i install Windows, latest drivers and steam I am set. No need to know what i am doing, no need to consult an expert. Just: Next, next finish, yes yes, sure, here is the soul of my first born, next yes, sure. Fuck off with that edge update. Yes next end.

The moment bootloaders etc can break, whatever the cause, is the moment you lose 60% of your users.

The moment you need to consult an expert to game you lose another 20%.

That's what he's doing. He is not catering or talking to you, the experienced Linux user, he's talking to your nephew who just finished building his first game pc. He's saying: You little guy... don't bother just yet. Get acquainted with everything and then try this.

There where three. The full din keyboard plug, serial for your mouse and that unholy thing on the back of your sound blaster on which you could connect a joystick.

Yeah, sure.

You sound like one of those people who are the reason why we find the following warning on microwave ovens:

WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO DRY PETS IN THIS DEVICE.

And on plastic bags:

WARNING: DO NOT PLACE OVER HEAD.

We both know that this is not what it's for. And it (model S) has never been cleared ANYWHERE ON THIS GLOBE as an autonomous vehicle.

(Adaptive with lane assist and collision detection) Cruise control/autopilot on, foot on accelerator, no eyes on the road, no hands on the steering wheel. That's malice. There where visible, audible and even tactile warnings wich this guy ignored.

No current day vehicle (or something from 2019) has in it's manual that this is use as intended. As a matter of fact all warn you to not do that.

And I get that you hate Tesla/Musk, don't we all. But in this case only 1 person is responsible. The asshole driving it.

Assholes can't even type, ammirite?

[–] Redredme@lemmy.world -5 points 10 months ago (8 children)

Thats not a gut feeling. That's how every cruise control since it was invented in the 70s works. You press the brake or the accelerator? Cruise control (and autopilot) = off.

That's not a gut feeling, that's what stated in the manual.

Yeah it's funny. Post about stuff just working out of the box.

First reply: Open source. Downgrade. So.... Do exactly what the post is raging about.

"This song is not a rebel song. This song is Sunday, bloody Sunday" or, better: fuck you and your mother. I will say what I want when I want.and call you fuckers out for all the bullshit you put us through. But, since these are the eighties i will do it somewhat politely.

Boy. October. War. Under a bloodred sky.

Somewhere along there they got lost and made the unfo. Still good but.. fuck Eno.

Then it all exploded with the Joshua tree. They became the biggest band on earth, almost imploded under their own weight during/after R&H. Reinvented themselves with Achtung Baby and Zooropa and became what we have nowadays.

But that glorious beginning, the rage, the pain. The angst of our entire generation in those three albums with bloodred sky as the magnificent encore. The Magnus opus.

It was nothing like them now. I can't even name their last albums.

It only got harder ever since my adhd diagnosis.

Much harder. I feel taken advantage of, or better: they took advantage of my medical insurance without helping me anything.

I use Windows because

My pc does not tell a story. It's a thing I use for work and play. I can't be bothered, it doesn't interest me, what niri, alacritty cosmic de is. Why should I care? Why should I invest that time? My pc works already. My framerates are high, it's stable and all the stuff I need for work, works. Out of the box.

Every single time I tried linux for the desktop the system failed within weeks. Dependency error after an automatic upgrade. Grub killing itself. Again. X refuses to start. So many config files littered all over the place just waiting for you to fuck something up. Gpu driver bullshittery. Printer hell. Other peripheral shit. (Flightsim gear)

And honestly, the last time i seriously tried was more then 5 years ago. In IT terms that's a lifetime. So surely it will be much better now.

But after the umpteenth fail to start X, I just thought: wtf am I doing? I could also next next finish my ass through a Windows installation, insert a pihole in my network to block the most obnoxious stuff and just do my thing.

Which is what I did.

Now, I do use linux. A lot. Just not for my desktop.

The rebellion, Sync, is dying.

Maybe it didn't sell enough. And maybe you're making more money elsewhere.

That's cool. We, well, I understand. you're not in this because you hate free time, you're in this to make money. I get it.

But if that's the case, let us know, so we can mourn the death of sync and select another client.

"The Federal Republic of Germany was an American creation, with the U.S. having shepherded Germany down the path of democracy following World War II. America was Germany’s big brother, and although the relationship was not always free of tension, there was never a doubt about the military support from across the Atlantic. That is now over."

Interesting read.
