Thanks, it definitely sounds like that’s now the case with the implementation of the ETA. Since Brexit, I’ve been pretty much exclusively using my Canadian passport, which is why I let my UK passport expire. I had been thinking of applying for an Irish passport (Irish grandfather) at one time so that I could have a European passport but maybe I’ll rethink that now (all those fees!). Anyway, I’m off to get some new passport photos on Monday morning….

UK ETA for dual citizen (sh.itjust.works)

Anyone had experience as a Canada/UK dual citizen applying for an ETA using their Canadian passport?

I’m travelling to the UK from Canada later this year; already booked my flights using my Canadian passport (my UK one expired some time ago). I’ve tried both the UK ETA app and the UK ETA website, and in both cases there is no option to select UK as the dual nationality after I have entered all my Canadian info. Seems like every other country in the world is listed but not UK. It says all other nationalities must be declared, so I’m not inclined to skip over this step.

I’ve been emailing with the website support team on and off all afternoon, and they just keep telling me to select “United Kingdom” even though I’ve sent them screenshots of the dropdown menu showing that it’s not listed.

Anyone had a similar problem, and have a solution?

Update: Latest response from “Support”:

“Hello

You cannot apply for an ETA if you have British citizenship. We can only process the application and suggest you contact UK immigration or the embassy for clarification on how to proceed.

Kind regards Support Team”

And in the meantime, I also found this on the Home Office blog:

“We recognise that the introduction of the ETA is a substantial change for British dual citizens of ETA eligible nationalities, and they are currently permitted to travel on their non-British passport while the scheme is being implemented. • In the future, all dual British citizens will need to present either a valid British passport or certificate of entitlement to avoid delays at the border. We will make it clear when this change will be enforced.”

I guess I need to renew my UK passport! (That’s cheaper than the certificate of entitlement they mention).

LOL, I haven’t lived in the UK for > 30 yrs. I guess watching all those Big Fat Quiz and other Brit videos on YT has familiarized me with some of the more recent BritCom characters. The second pic made me think of him.

MacMost.com has loads of videos (also available on YouTube). If you search those you might find some basic videos for new users.

Fleetwood Mac, Man of the World. “But I just wish that I'd never been born”. That one line alone does it for me.

I had a cat once that brought home a barbecued sausage. It was still warm….I’m convinced he stole it off someone’s backyard grill when they weren’t looking. He was a VERY food motivated kitty - former stray who would bolt any food you put in front of him, no matter how recently he’d been fed.

He was also a typical orange cat (one brain cell). Had a call one time from someone a few streets over who begged me to come get him, as he was pawing at her closed glass sliding door, convinced that it was his house. Fortunately she could read his tag with my phone number through the glass (she was allergic to cats). When I went to pick him up, he thought I was taking him away from HIS house, so he was not happy….until he got to his real home, then he trotted happily inside. Sigh, I still miss him and he’s been gone for years.
