I remember at one time it was possible to download the entire IMDB data. I used it for a UI project in a CS class in the early 90s.

And commercials. My wife and I were just talking the other day about shared commercials we saw growing up that kids today will never experience. “Ancient Chinese secret”, “Don’t squeeze the charmin”, the crying Native American, “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing”, “Where’s the beef?”, “My bologna has a first name”, “I’m stuck on Band-aid”, “Calgon take me away”, “Mikey likes it”, “Sometimes you feel like a nut”, Joe Isuzu, “Avoid the noid”, “York peppermint patty gives me the feeling…”, Stompers, Micro-machines, “Who wears short shorts?”, “You got your chocolate in my peanut butter” … and these are just the ones I remember. They have none of those shared experiences.

I mean just making this list gave me such a wave of nostalgia.

A thumbs up at an inappropriate time could be considered a hate symbol.

Money means different things to different people. Look at it this way:

A person is a billionaire and they buy your son a car worth $90k. That would be equivalent to if you make $100k and decide to purchase something for $9. Would you care if your son spent $9 on a friend?

I understand your reservations as I would have them too. But keep in mind, giving your kid that kind of access to a network of that level is priceless. As long as the friend isn’t making your son feel subservient or lesser in any way, I’d leave it be.

My only concern is that kids that come from that kind of money, have access to very expensive lawyers, and therefore take risks most people wouldn’t take. I have seen it happen in person where I live (well used to live). It was an affluent neighborhood and sometimes the kids of these affluent people were complete obnoxious assholes. Not all of them, but definitely a statistically significant portion. That’s what I would be more concerned with. Just my 2¢.

No, he’d have to be impeached.

I plan on doing the exact same thing!!! I have a buddy who has done a few already and flipped them.

I was going to do it this time but the wifey was less than thrilled since we needed a mower immediately when our last one died. We have a pretty decent sized yard that is a pain to mow with a push mower. And when I said “new mower” before I meant new to me since it wasn’t new. It was however free since a family member gave me one they weren’t using anymore since they downsized their yard. So spending money on something that was going to require work wasn’t gonna fly. It is definitely on my plan for next summer however. At least this new one is less noisy than the last. My next door neighbor has one of those exact same Ryobi mowers (still with the SLA batteries however) and I’m so jealous how quiet it is.

I get this reference. Which is surprising since I’m a yank.

I inherited an electric one from my FIL. This is very satisfying.

It was splattered with tomato sauce. I even put the glass tray in the dishwasher
