But have you considered that I'm addicted to the blinding rage that I get from doing it?

In the wake of the delivery of a resounding no to this proposed constitutional change, this article offers a very measured analysis of the problems with the Voice proposal and rejects the simplistic idea that a "no" is simply due to Australians being racist. This article is from before the referendum.

Like I want to mute all posts from lemmy.ml lemmy.world etc. Comments are ok but I can't bear the Western chauvinism. These sites are probably the most propagandised platforms that I ever see on the internet.

I haven't followed this story and I have not much idea of the situation. Obviously I'm suspect of US motivations for troop deployment. How should this situation be addressed ideally?

Also the constant dedication to downvoting seems like the behaviour of someone who is paid to do it. Otherwise why would you do that, normal people would get bored right? I don't go and actively seek out online communities I disagree with to downvote their posts. That would be such a pathetic way to spend my time

It could be US government actors. They would only need to have a handful of people on the job doing fedposting and they would be very visible on Lemmy compared to other platforms because of the small userbase

Has anyone noticed a shift in tone on Ukraine war reporting? I wonder if the West is looking to prime people for a way out. All of a sudden we might find it IS a humanitarian crisis after all.

Funnily enough, of all the things that Musk has done with Twitter, this is the one which I realised genuinely bugs me. I hate the X logo and hate seeing the X icon on my phone. I realised I actually genuinely liked the cute little bird. I know it's not worth getting invested in, after all Twitter has always just been a for profit corporation. But for me this just exemplifies the problems with capitalism. Twitter doesn't belong to Musk rightly, it belongs to all of its millions of users who generate content, culture, and media on it and for it every minute. And yet a billionaire megalomaniac can come and shit on it and within less than a year fucking ruin it. There's no democracy in this. I've tried mastodon but I just can't get into it as much as lemmygrad. It seems too boring and just full of tech nerds. Unless someone can recommend a good mastodon instance to join?

Would the friendly downvoters like to share their views on what they disagree with?

I mean I didn't expect it to be great but seriously. The most sanitised corporate liberal brainworm rubbish. Completely undercooked story. The film is basically just a vessel for monologues about women's empowerment, albeit in a completely shackled liberalist framework where the extent of empowerment is just female president and female CEO - standard lib feminist stuff. This film falls into the bucket of "virtue signal by consumption" media where just by seeing and enjoying the film, and more importantly understanding the wisecrack cultural references and feeling smug about it, the viewer becomes an active political agent. On a technical level, the writing is just bad. Like I said there's nothing but a very shallow plot. The writers just resort to monologues to present the politics of the film rather than allowing the themes to present themselves organically through narrative. The film is stacked with minority "representation", disabled, trans, fat, etc. But this so called representation is purely cosmetic, they are merely tokens in the choreography routines (which incidentally was one of the only parts of the movie I could kinda get into). This ended up being longer than I thought itd be. In short its nothing but a virtue signalling showpiece to stoke the fires of the culture war. I can already imagine what the right wing pundits will be saying about this film and what the liberal mob will be saying in defence of this corporate vacuous cash grab.

Not sure if this is the best community to post. Most BRICS countries massively increasing healthcare spending. Of course increased spending doesn't necessarily equate to better outcomes as the US shows with highest global healthcare spending per capita but worse health outcomes compared to similar economies. China plans to massively improve their universal health coverage so I really hope increases in spending equate to increasing health access. Currently many health services are still privately operated in China and operate on a profit incentive unfortunately, meaning there is still some out of pocket costs for many treatments. I really hope to see full comprehensive and affordable UHC implemented in China.

Fucking lemmy libs (lemmygrad.ml)

I don't know how but somehow it feels like lemmy is even more full of arrogant, moronic libs than reddit. Such a bloodthirsty, warmongering pack of Western chauvinists. I can't even stand being anywhere but lemmygrad now. I seriously fucking hate these people.

Turns out that running a health system into the dirt actually kills people.

oh dear. I told myself i wouldn't engage. (narrator: but he engaged). Just trying to gently nudge an anarchist towards materialist analysis, i'll try resist getting sucked into any arguments for my own sake.

Yugopnik I think from memory. He was saying how libs can't say "commie" because its such a dated word and nobody takes it seriously (except some conservatives who still say it unironically which is actually hilarious😂). It's too much associated with redscare era propaganda. Tankie doesn't carry this baggage but has exactly the same function.

As usual no reasoning was provided as to why Russia and China might block such a motion, the implication being that its because they're evil, hate nature and cute animals, and want to destroy the environment. I'm sure there must be sensible reasons why Russia and China don't want these reserves. Are they proposed for areas which China/Russia have interest in in Antarctica which would limit their operations? What do they do down there anyway? Is the Antarctic a useful surveillance/espionage outpost? Are there nuclear weapons in Antarctica? I have no idea, I'd love if anyone can educate me a bit on Antarctic geopolitics.
