Maybe you could run a science program at your local library? They tend to be more welcoming.

As an aside, you implied in the OP that you were(are?) a drag queen on the weekends. Do you mind if I ask - I've never been quite sure about the self identity of drag queens.

Is a person a drag queen only when they perform in drag? That is, are you still a queen when you are in regular clothes at the grocery store? Also, is the drag queen the personality of the character you play, or the person doing the performing?

Italian had a great presence this year, with their own good song (#5), the unexpectedly fun San Marino (#26) entry, and the fake Italian song from Estonia (#3). I hear Italians were pretty pleased!

I had expected Sweden (#4) or Finland (#11) to win, but my favorites were Albania (#8) and Latvia (#13).

Austria performed really well and I knew the jury would love it, but I only really rooted for him toward the end of voting because the alternative was infuriating.

I appreciate the tips!

You're talking about how a projector throws out a trapezoid instead of a rectangle if it's above or below the screen, right? I didn't know that would impact the picture quality - I understood that you could adjust the shape of the image.

My reading suggests that a DLP projector is probably brighter than an LCD, so I'm thinking I should go with DLP. LASER sounds good but too expensive.

I have a WII, and you're on a good track, that would be fun as heck.

Cowardly reporting. "Death to the IDF" isn't nearly the same as "death to Jews". Bob Vylan wasn't being antisemitic, he was being anti-israel at worst.

I have never owned a projector and I'm not an audio- or cinephile. I often have neighbors over at the fire pit, and showing a movie would be fun sometimes.

Recommend a luggable projector setup? I don't mind it being cabled to power or input - I'm not going far from the house. I was thinking I might build a little cart to store and deploy it easily. I see battery powered and lightweight units which are great I'm sure, but I don't need to pay extra for those features.

I'm also looking for info on projector screens. Sadly, there's no suitable place to mount one so it'll need to be on a stand or something too.

La la la lava!

That seems bonkers high. I would tape a klaxon to every cell tower and call it done.

Watching the national finals starts to feel like work. This year there were, I think, three Super Saturdays with several multi-hour shows to watch. Oof.

Benidorm Fest from Spain is usually good. San Remo (Italy) is great, of course, since they're the template on which the ESC was based and because the Italians view THAT as the real show. Ukraine's Vidbir is interesting because you can tell they have no budget and are often bombed during the show. Portugal's Festival de Cançâo has some amazing songs, because they don't care about winning ESC, they're just focused on highlighting the best Portuguese acts.

I have some favorites from 2025 that didn't make it out of the national finals - From Ukraine I loved Future Culture's Waste my Time Vidbir Live - Music Video . From Finland I'm still listening to Goldielocks's Made Of UMK Live - Music Video . Germany sent the wrong song again, they should have gone with Feuerschwanz's Knight Club is super fun. NDR live - Music video .

I found the Eurovangelists podcast, and they're a lot of fun to follow along with. Taking in too much media ABOUT the contest can color your enjoyment of the songs, though.

I listen to the music I liked as a youngin: grunge, 90's alternative, nu-metal, weird Al, and sea shanties.

I also watch and listen to the Eurovision Song Contest every year since I found it a few years ago. That gives me ~40 new artists every year that I might like. I follow a few favorites and see what else they've made. Watching some of the national final competitions gives me dozens more songs.

Have a great vacation, everyone!

Seeing how many people are in a location is very cool. There are way more people playing this than I imagined!

20 USD, for anyone too lazy to click!

Just watched this blind (haha) after seeing the two stars on the poster on Netflix as I was scrolling.

It was pretty fun! Not a cinematic masterpiece but enjoyable. Rated R for a few instances of breasts, an erection bulge, and lots of bad language.

I had a good time. I understand it wasn't a big success, and was the third of four movies they made together.

Wilder and Pryor are quite funny, often in an immature way. The female leads Joan Severance and Kirsten Childs do a great job, and Kevin Spacey plays a bad guy well.

Anybody else seen this?

His shoulders seem to be six feet apart when he's wearing the robes, but when he's out of them he has much more reasonable proportions.

Howdy,

I have been experiencing annoying brief skips, like on a bumped CD player, with my media players. Replaying the same song or same part of the song does not have the skips, so I don't think it's the files' fault.

Had the same problem in Elisa and VLC. I don't watch much local video, but streaming audio and video doesn't have this problem for me.

Watching the system monitor I see I have 10 Gb of free memory and only 5-10% CPU utilization.

System is Debian 12 with KDE and Xwindows. (Wayland doesn't like my Nvidia 1070)

Any suggestion for how to troubleshoot would be appreciated. I tried downloading more memory but that didn't help!

I've only bought the pan a week ago and used it three times. Hot dogs, eggs, and steak.

When I'm done I clean it with a scrubby sponge and once with a little bit of detergent, then put it on the stove to dry quickly. Then while it's hot I smear maybe a teaspoon of vegetable oil on it with a paper towel "brush".

In between uses it's wet with oil, as you can see in the picture. How much residual oil should there be? I had the impression that it would be dryer.

Also, how much should I scrub? I am not going to leave crust of beef on there, but I also don't think it's supposed to be scrubbed back to new smoothness.

I forget medical info all the time. When was my last dentist visit? I dunno. Which kid had their tonsils out? What's my blood type?

Wife asks "remember when I had strep last year?" No...

Has anyone in my house had COVID? I think so, but which one(s)?

I forget vacations we took, what states I've been to.

Terrible at remembering people that I've met even a bunch of times.

Horrible at work. I'm on top of what's happening now, mostly, because I have notes, but what happened a year ago? Gosh.

It's really frustrating living like this, but I don't know how much might be my ADHD and how much is just me having a bad brain.

For example, this one. https://lemmyverse.link/lazysoci.al/post/26817260

It's about half of posts I looked at today.

Yesterday's parade and Turquoise carpet was my first good look at many of the participants. Lots of them have really remarkable outfits.

The commentary wasn't very interesting, but I'm not all the way through yet and country #1 Australia hasn't reached the venue and interview area yet. for me.

I was really heartened to see so many Pride and Palestine flags in addition to all the national flags.

When Israel's delegation was announced there was some really noticeable booing! The crowd was chanting something but I couldn't make it out. Can anyone with better ears help me out?

A trans parent would likely still want to be called "Mom" or "Dad", I assume. At least that's the case with the few trans parents I know.

Parents don't usually use "daughter" or "son" as pronouns, so I don't think it would come up with non-binary children.

Do children of non-binary parents call their parents by their first name? It seems unlikely that they say "Parent, may I please have more screen time?".
