After months of neck-and-neck competition, Quest 3 overtakes Valve Index to become the second most popular PC VR headset. […]

These numbers could be natural fluctuations. However, it is likely that some users have switched to Quest 3 from the much older devices, especially since Quest 2 has been sold out for some time and the full Valve Index kit still costs twice as much as Quest 3.

A PC built into a keyboard without a display, like the Raspberry Pi 400, starts making a lot of sense with Meta Quest HDMI Link running on the most popular standalone VR headsets.

The Raspberry Pi 400 is a roughly $70-$100 keyboard with a Raspberry Pi 4 PC inside. The keyboard PC features a pair of Micro HDMI ports for display, a USB-C port for power in and three USB-A ports for attached devices.

Paired with a VR headset like Quest 3, I've used retractable USB-C cables to make the connections more manageable between keyboard, power, and headset. The setup is completed with a mess of USB hubs, micro HDMI to HDMI adapter and a Shadowcast 2 capture card.

Batman: Arkham Shadow shows immense potential. The atmospheric quality of the environment, excellent voice acting, and engaging use of gadgets and overall narrative are set to immerse you in Batman's world like never before. Combat may prove divisive, especially among VR enthusiasts who prefer less scripted experiences, but it stands as a sincere homage to the Arkham legacy. Batman: Arkham Shadow is shaping up to be a must-play for VR gamers and Batman fans alike and we’ll keep you updated with more insights as we get closer to launch day, so stay tuned!

Appearing in Gamescom's Opening Night Live presentation, Batman: Arkham Shadow by Meta-owned studio Camoflauj (Iron Man VR) received its first official gameplay trailer. This showcased several key elements like how the studio has translated Arkham's combat system for VR, stealth takedowns, gliding, grappling, and the Detective Vision. Here's the new trailer

Quest headsets just got an interesting new capability via the new Meta Quest HDMI Link first-party app. […]

Capture cards can be used with smartphones, tablets, consoles, tablets, and more. For example, you could use a Lightning to HDMI cable alongside a capture card to view your iPhone on a giant virtual screen in your Quest. […]

However, there is a massive caveat to note here. Capture cards will not display DRM's content that uses HDCP. That means you won't be able to use this setup to watch downloaded Netflix or Disney+ titles, for example.

The Meta Quest HDMI Link app is available for free on App Lab. It's a panel app, so you can use it alongside other 2D apps and even inside VR apps if you have v69 PTC.

Co-developed by Spoonfed Interactive and Combat Waffle Studios (Ghosts of TaborSilent North), GRIM involves PvP and PvE as you try to survive the harsh environment while fighting other players. This involves scavenging for resources, food, water, firearms, and ammunition, crafting armor and weapons, trading items, and fortifying your base while venturing across the red planet. […]

An exact release window remains unknown, though GRIM aims to launch a public alpha test on Quest and Steam later this year.

It definitely looks like an interesting idea, but yeah it could be really bad. Perhaps it does work though, in that case it‘s mix of sitting and physically turning. I guess we’ll see

Not entirely sure if this helps with motion sickness or makes it worse. When I first started playing VR I was too exhausted to keep standing and used a rotating chair for a bit, which pretty much instantly made me sick.

That was basically the only time I got sick, I don’t have an issue with loopings, flying, etc. Could just be that I wasn’t as used to it yet though.

Archiact, best known for developing Journey to Foundation and Doom 3: VR Edition, will close in two weeks. […]

Archiact's closure isn't the only notable VR studio we've seen shutting down recently. Following previous layoffs last year alongside Onward studio Downpour Interactive, Meta closed Ready At Dawn last week after acquiring the Lone Echo studio back in 2020. The move followed recent reports that its Reality Labs AR/VR division has been ordered to cut spending by 20%.

“We’re aware of reports that access to Signal has been blocked in some countries,” Signal says. If you are affected by the blocks, the company recommends turning on its censorship circumvention feature. (NetBlocks reports that this feature lets Signal “remain usable” in Russia.)

Released back in March, Medieval Dynasty New Settlement is an immersive sandbox RPG where you roam around managing everything needed to try and get your little settlement to thrive. It's also now been optimized for the Quest 3 thanks to this week's 1.4 patch, adding a wealth of visual enhancements and new performance modes across all supported Quest headsets.

In addition to what Emotet said, I‘d add that no matter how closed or open the platform is (and it isn’t even as closed up) no one outside of Lemmy will care as long as it’s a compelling package.

Thanks :) pe1uca summed it up pretty nicely. I‘d add that you can get all your channelIds (which you need for the rss feeds) by exporting your YouTube subscriptions via google takeaway. You can take a look at what the rss feed gives you, it’s as pe1uca said the 15 most recent videos and sadly not all the info: duration e.g. is missing.

I’ve been on basically that exact same journey. I made a little iOS app that uses rss feeds and the iframe player to play videos: Unwatched for YouTube (just released it two weeks ago). It’s also open source, if you have any specific questions let me know.

Thanks :) Are you also seeing the dimming issue?

Actual black for the pro phones?

That $353 million Q2 revenue came alongside a whopping $4.84 billion in costs, resulting in a quarterly "loss" of around $4.5 billion.

They’re still a long way off before they’re actually making any money on this.

I find the title somewhat misleading, the growth continues year over year compared to the quarters to last year, but not compared to the same quarter yoy to previous years.

It also still looks very sad compared to the investments that they’re making. I‘m curious to see how Quest 3S will change affect this.

I don’t think the "your Facebook account gets banned" aspect is an issue. You don’t need a facebook account anymore, but a Meta account instead – same company ofc. So if your actual issue is Meta being behind it, that changes nothing and you probably shouldn’t buy anything from them.

But I’m not sure if there’s any headset that doesn’t require some sort of account at one point, even if it’s just a Steam account.

I agree. Similar to all the anti-competitive lawsuits Apple has to deal with regarding the App Store because they’re clinging to every last dollar they can squeeze out of it, their iMessage approach seems to be going a similar way.

I’m sure tons of people are buying iPhones because of iMessage, but it looks like that might be slowly eroding away. In the end, they’ll have lost both their relevance in the messaging area and a strong reason for people to buy iPhones. They should’ve just made an Android app for iMessage.
