Yes, he was quite popular at one time. It was clearly a well-groomed bit of PR that he was this eccentric billionaire who was using his wealth to forward science and technology for all mankind.

Then it turned out that he's a narcissistic man-child. The mask slipped for me personally when he called that diver rescuing the Thai kids a pedo. His outrageous manipulation of crypto markets came next (exploiting the lack of regulation). Since then, his purchase of Twitter and treatment of Twitter employees has been a staggering shitshow from start to finish. It has absolutely shattered any illusion that he is a good businessman and he's certainly not a good person.

Picard season 3 was pretty great too. I skipped season 2 as I hated season 1. Apparently season 3 just ignores the events of 2 completely because it was that bad.

Me too, I have no idea where the complaints about Jerboa are coming from. I mean, it shows posts and comments, how radically different are these alternate apps? They all look the same to me!

It's the Methodists that were big in Wales, not the Catholics.

isn't this happening right now with Judge Cannon? She was a Trump appointee, has already made an outrageous decision relating to Trump, and now she's presiding over his classified documents case, Trumpers are sending her death threats because they think she has the power to toss the case out at this point. It's like they don't even know when they are winning!

in part because the fediverse is “too hard.”

I think this is probably a good thing, it might keep dumb people away.

As an aside, it's starting to irritate me how often I see people complain the fediverse/threadiverse is too complex or too difficult to understand. I mean, you managed to understand that email accounts live on different servers, but you can't apply that same mental logic to forums living on different servers?

I think the performance bottleneck isn't the web application, it's the PostgreSQL database of comments and posts that won't scale horizontally (easily).

Really thinking about investing in one of those ~£300 air conditioning units for home next year, as summers seem to keep getting worse, anyone tried those?

I bought one earlier this year. It's life-changing, would recommend.

Her arrest comes on the back of the detentions of party treasurer Colin Beattie and former party chief executive Peter Murrell - also Ms Sturgeon's husband - who were both subsequently released without charge.

Lemmy must be using the prefers-color-scheme media query as I didn't even know it had a light mode!

Just to be pedantic, it's fewer - not less. You use less for things that you can't count.

I once came across a dildo machine in a pub in Newcastle. Wish I'd thought to take a picture but it was before the whole smartphone thing.
