hey, i’ve been working on a small project for a bit called the hideout.

it came from something i noticed using discord — it’s great for big communities but sometimes it’s kinda annoying to just quickly start a game with people. usually you need bots, setup, someone explaining the rules, etc.

so the hideout is basically just rooms where people can join and play right away.

right now there’s:

• mafia
• spyfall
• wordle

people have been using it for a few different things:

• quick games with random players
• small study rooms where people just hang out while working
• friend groups that want a place to chat and play something together

recently two random people ended up playing and talking in a room for almost 2 hours which was pretty cool to see.

we just passed 100 users and i’m trying to grow it a bit more.

Random thought but does anyone else miss those chaotic late night browser game sessions?

Stuff like social deduction games where everyone’s accusing each other and it just turns into complete chaos.

I’ve been messing around with a small online project and recently added voice chat to it, and it completely changed the vibe. Even with like 3 or 4 people it suddenly feels alive instead of awkward text silence.

Made me realise how different things feel when you can actually hear someone hesitate before lying.

Curious if people here still play that kind of thing or if it’s all Discord servers and console games now. 👋

Some comments:

1. The video has no sound because... well, arguing parents.

2. VERY baddly cropped. It's hard to record a video and be able to crop it decently when you had to record a gameplay holding the phone with your feet.

3. Yeah, I HAD to use the portable emulator. I'm VERY slow in this game on a phone emulator, so...

4. I'm not spanish, but I play games in spanish to help me learn the language.

I used to get a gingerbread house from the Xmas Market every year, but they stopped selling them in 2020.

I know I can get kits but those things have never stick together for me.

Anyone have a line on pre-built gingerbread houses? I tried the supermarkets but all they have are kits.

Figured this summer I will meet someone for real, at a demo, a get together or some other IRL event. It is now the end of summer and sadly no romantic relationship. So comrades, I am back to the comodification of my romantic life 😭

Can't help but think the BBC could have avoided a lot of controversy over the new series simply by using AI to replace Gregg Wallace with Loyd Grossman.

So, a few of my friends and I (Americans) all use a UK spellings for a few words (not all the same ones each), and we've all determined that it must have something to do with interacting with Brits regularly on the Internet during the same years that we were learning to spell.

Is this a thing that any of you do or anyone you know?
