I hate how, over the last 30 years, the burden for people to not be ripped off by companies has shifted to the individual. Why must I use my limited free time and mental capacity to shop around for car insurance, contents insurance, buildings insurance, rail travel, energy suppliers and now vets? To hell with 'free market capitalism'.

Hmm, doubt it's for security. Seems more likely they're looking for backdoors in order to spy on users. There are far too many governments desperate to backdoor encryption and messaging apps to trust any government's stated intent when it comes to technology
