So anyway, here is what Suetonius says about Caesar’s funeral ( well, the first paragraph translated by Gavorse)

When the funeral was announced, a pyre was erected in the Field of Mars near the tomb of Julia. In front of the rostra was placed a gilded shrine, made after the model of the temple of Venus Genetrix. Within was a bier of ivory with coverlets of purple and gold, and at its head a pillar hung with the robe in which he was slain. Since it was clear that the day would not be long enough for those who offered gifts, they were directed to bring them to the Campus by whatsoever streets of the city they wished, regardless of any order of precedence. At the funeral games, to rouse pity and indignation at his death, these words from the Contest for the arms of Pacuvius were sung:

Saved I these men that they might murder me?

USA: Humanism and mercy are fine, but don’t use them too much, or for every group

I suspect the reaction would have been less if the Christian themed camps were spared.

Even so, I doubt even these protests can do much

at least some of the “clearance” in the past was just picking a random black person and stringing them up then going out for doughnuts

I think the extra surveillance is stopping this enough for it to be a major source of the trend

Vibe coding is the refuge of the incompetent, and has enough shock and awe to part fools with their money .

While I am biased, having coded too many lines, over the years, for my own good; I believe it is a healthy bias grounded in experience

That “democracy” has many issues: I personally believe it’s beyond saving. But if one wishes to make it be real, paper ballots counted by witnesses is a required first step.

This fundamental requirement to democracy is missing in most of the USA, and it is not easy to generate interest to promote change. People refuse to take it seriously, the press will ignore it, and there is a weird cult about computers being required to count votes.

I have decided Americans, as a nation, can never understand how democracy works. They believe in voting but require some oligarch to tell them the results. The fix is in for most primary winners and the general elections are run in a way to maximize profits.

Laughable as that may be, it is a permanent problem in many states, and cannot be solved. This broken democracy cannot not be a solution to the problems.

That said, it’s certainly possible to use this as a solution to local areas and a few states. Just never the whole nation

People had higher expectations of her, that is why not many mentions of the other 421 people who did this too. Nobody expected much from them anyway

I don't understand the interest in these calls for justice, given that Trump has probably raped over a thousand people by now, over the decades, and he is untouchable whether he is president or not. And the only way to prosecute him is by revolution.

What I think is happening is that people are trying to prod the failed USA justice system to show some spark of life, and a lot of the rage here is more about impotent fury over the protection of these thugs, as much as over the crimes

So, a knight with shield and armor is killing people. Take away his defenses and he kills less. Yes?

When the casualty ratio is more than 1:1000 and the only reason it’s like that is because of the armor . Then helping repair the armor is a war crime.

Also stationing a huge USA navy fleet next to Gaza to prevent any organized from reaching Gaza is a war crime too. Having them move away will reduce the loss of life and allow food to reach the area.

The United States is totally complicit in this
