It's posted under Linux phones.

I see, at least initial read/reviews seem to mention Zen removes Firefox telemetry and AI so that's good. (I also have waterfox installed but didn't really use it as main browser)

Now need to see if flatpak Firefox is supported by this script.

[–] rando@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Would anyone know if this would work for all Firefox derivatives as well? Zen browser in my case. Also would it work for flatpak installations as well?

Nothing really, I mostly want to experiment (but trying to do it without changing my workflow much), from suggestions both atomic and qubes options r looking interesting

[–] rando@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Thanks. Adding qubes to the list. I may not use it for trying distro but separating workflow is good idea.

Maybe just new DE. And I keep having intermittent issues with keyboard in fedora (can absolutely be hardware / firmware issue and I will see it in other distro as well

Sorry didn't notice second part as soon as I saw ventoy/liveusb. What I'm looking for is very superficial (apart from atomic distro). I'm looking to see if I like using distro. I've exact same packages on my fedora (laptop) and pop os (desktop), I keep thinking I still like pop os (maybe just what I'm used to).

Oh interesting, I may need to look into atomic distro more. As of now I don't understand what are features, pros/cons. I'll read up but it's definitely looking like way forward for me. If u have resources please link them.

Is it terminal only?

[–] rando@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

I'll check this, when it's VM I don't generally spend required time to use it (my problem). I just get on primary os, do whatever I wanted and log off. This is the main reason I'm hesitant of VM.

Ventoy or liveusb is good for installing something but doesn't seem good idea to actually run long term.

I'm trying to figure out primary distro for framework 16. Currently using fedora for about year. I've package installation automated through ansible so technically using new distro is not big hassle still want to see if there is any other way of easily distro-hoping on bare metal.

I'm long time user of Ubuntu and now pop os so that's one option and other is bazzite (or similar immutable). I would like to try at least those 2.

I use volumio but that's dedicated OS installation and it's limiting in the sense of what other things can be done.

I'm looking to setup streaming to HTPC. What r my options?

I found uPnP is not advised due to security risk, however I didn't see any other recommendation.

[EDIT] [UPDATE] now I understand why information was so lacking - because solution was just that simple. 😑

In gnome settings -> sharing -> enable media sharing.

Don't need extra app or setup.

I've 2 network drives on one subnet (nfs and samba). I would like to access them only if computer is connected to particular ssid (subnet).

I'm using gnome primarily. And files stops responding if mount points can't be accessed. There is no real way to recover from this apart from connecting to network, unmount and then change network.

I would like those drives to be accessed by system only if they are reachable.

[EDIT][UPDATE]: Following suggestions from comments. I've tried systemd and autofs methods both of them don't work the way I've setup access to mounts. If mount point is in home OR bookmarks in files app, it would hang up as soon as network is disconnected. It works well when mount points are not visible by default (for e.g. /smb/share1). Currently using autofs <- easy and short to setup with mount points under /smb and /nfs

I want to connect tailscale if I disconnect from home WiFi and vice versa. Is there a way to achieve this? I'm on Android 14.

Recently found about tramp-mode. I'm trying to use it as primary way to work. My previous workflow was: VNC to VM, open emacs for editing and shell-pop for issuing run commands etc. My shell-pop config is: '(shell-pop-full-span t) '(shell-pop-shell-type '("eshell" "*eshell*" (lambda nil (eshell shell-pop-term-shell)))) '(shell-pop-universal-key "C-t") '(shell-pop-window-position "bottom") '(shell-pop-window-size 30)

With tramp-mode I would like to follow similar approach. I can get shell-pop to come up with ctrl-t and it opens current working directory. However .cshrc related to VM is not loaded and I don't have access to correct VM shell commands / tools.

is there way to source RC file (from VM) before invoking eshell?

This is not necessarily PC building but I don't know where else to ask about it.

I'm looking for printer (office use) without scammy practices by printer companies. I want to connect it to Linux machine and maybe phone line (for fax). Other machines can just send print to connected Linux machine.

Please let me know if there r suggestions.

I currently use finamp (on phone), volumio (for home speakers). I wanted to know if plugin either server side or client side exist which can play songs automatically based on first song played? I want to be able to select a song and play similar songs instead of manually creating playlist and updating them when new content is added.

[EDIT] : very early impressions (using both symfonium and Finamp). Both of them can't jump languages (English, Arabic, Hindi)

I prefer Finamp track mix for Hindi songs (album contains multiple genre and artists). It seems to play similar sounding songs easily.

How do I run another DE along with cosmic. I'm running alpha6 and would like to use some apps which don't yet run with cosmic (some steam games)

What is meta name for plasma for e.g. (will it overwrite greeter)

Do I just follow: https://support.system76.com/articles/desktop-environment/

I use osmand, however is there a plugin or separate app that uses traffic data or weather data (road closure/accidents).

I think remarkable paper pro is still too fragile to buy. I've seen other reports but happened to me as well. Tablet is developing cracks just sitting around. Thankfully it's still functional, but since they don't fix broken screen and refurbished is same price as new, I think I'll just hold off buying new one until next gen or any other device shows up.

Just wanted to rant/share.

Right now I create a note "so and so business operates at this address" but is there better way to do this? [Using Streetcomplete]

Has something changed regarding soulseek? I don't seem to get any results for searching. I tried previously searched terms and even those are returning blank. If there is better place to ask question/debug help regarding soulseek, let me know.

[EDIT Solved]: as suggested in comments : some artists are unsearchable
