You could set your browser to clear all cookies when you close it. That does mean you have to keep logging into sites every time you open the browser again, but with a password manager that's not really a problem.

It's just a huntsman spider. Extremely common and totally harmless to humans. They can run really fast though, and the way they move can look a bit freaky.

I can understand this. This is a server hosted by an individual who doesn't want the potential legal headaches that may arise. Everyone is free to make another account on another instance, or create their own instance.

256TB? That's huge! How about an affordable 8TB SSD though? I ended up going with a HDD as a secondary drive because it was like a quarter of the price of high capacity SSDs.

I can spend 17 minutes driving to work, or 1.5 hours catching buses. Easy choice for me.

30 new ships in a year? I doubt it. I mean, they can't even afford to keep one aircraft carrier running.

I'll have to disagree there. When you Favourite a post, the person that posted it gets a notification about the fact, while if you Bookmark something no notification is sent. In effect you are telling the person that you "Liked" their post.

Also, looking at the Explore section of Mastodon the following message is shown at the top of the feed:

These are posts from across the social web that are gaining traction today. Newer posts with more boosts and favorites are ranked higher.

So those Favourites are used by the algorithm to rank posts. Bookmarks are totally private and only used to save posts for your own use.

I don't see it that way. There are separate options to Favourite or Bookmark a post. To me Bookmarking something is so you can refer to it later, although nothing is stopping you using Favourites that way.

Just came to the comments page and it said "You must log in or register to comment." I was already signed in 💀

When there was an influx of users during the Reddit blackout, they said that they were getting lots of trolls and they couldn't keep up with the moderation. Lemmy.world and Sh.itjust.works had the most traffic and were letting people sign up without vetting so the Beehaw admins decided to defederate those communities.

Omg, I went to twitter.com and it requires a login now. That's the end of that, I guess. Most people aren't going to sign up to see a random sentence written by some person that was linked to by some random website.

Still over 5K subs are dark: https://reddark.untone.uk/ It will be interesting to see how that changes over time.

I made a post to funny@Lemmy.world, then in another tab I subscribed to science@lemmy.ml. Back in the tab I made the post in, the page updated itself to look like I made the post in science@lemmy.ml instead. I didn't refresh the page or do anything else... It just changed by itself.
