Oh look, pedantry.

It's only one of the most contentious definitions in political philosophy.

What's that bullshit about Mamdani facing criticism about not being outspoken enough against antisemitism?

I think I understand what they mean. Trump is not a racist ideologue. He's not a "capital R" Racist, the way Hitler was. He's racist and his racism influences everything he does of course. But that's "lowercase r" racist. It's not what defines him, it's just one of his characteristics, maybe not even his most defining one.

It will keep getting worse, yes, but we can still impact how many generations down the line that will keep happening. That's what's hard at this point: giving a shit about descendants we will never meet.

For fuck's sake, It's not the ban I care about.

Man, this is hopeless. You've pigeonholed me, made up your mind and that's it. You perceive this whole interaction as me moaning about the ban, so you dismiss anything I have to say and talk down on me. This isn't a discussion for you, there is no chance to communicate here anything. Bah.

Lol, zero engagement with my actual argument. Ok buddy, hope you get a breather.

@jordanlund@lemmy.world you're answering other things up and down the thread, but I haven't heard from you. After this explanation do you still maintain that this post, that was apparently the straw that broke the camel's back and got me banned, was "advocating violence"?

Right.

As in Right wing.

Rutte's ass kissing went to his head, he thinks he's the world's "daddy".

I think this story is a solarpunk seed, where communities come together to face environmental disaster, against a predominant narrative of hate.

Every now and then I go back to the ideas developed by Mesquita and his colleagues about the Selectorate Theory. They entered public discourse via CGP Grey's videos, and a book called The Dictator's Handbook.

The wikipedia article I linked to above, gives a pretty good overview. I see it as a work in the line of Machiavelli, or Gramsci: a theory of how power operates. There are some very good common-sense arguments there for example for expanding democratic participation ("the size of the selectorate") as much as possible in as many spheres as possible, because small selectorates simply mean less public goods. At its limit, it leads quite naturally to egalitarianism in politics, the economy, etc.

I'm not saying it is perfect as a universal theory of everything, of course. It's an abstraction, but it seems a very useful one. I think that it's a very useful tool that seems to be completely ignored in left/socialist circles.

The Hind Rajab Foundation, in partnership with the March 30 Movement and through the office of attorney Haroon Raza, has filed a complaint demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of three IDF soldiers who entered Amsterdam yesterday. The individuals involved are Yehuda Tsfa, Yotam Shmuelevich, and Liran Magal, members of the Latak Unit of the 932 “Granit” Battalion, accused of engaging in the destruction of civilian properties in Gaza without any military necessity.

Hezbollah issued an evacuation order yesterday evening for Israeli settlers in 25 northern settlements, mirroring the occupation forces’ actions in Lebanon. The move follows widespread Israeli evacuation orders targeting areas including Beirut’s Southern Suburb, Southern Lebanon, the Bekaa, and parts of Tyre, with claims of Hezbollah military presence in civilian homes.

Hezbollah stated that the settlements had become military outposts for Israeli forces attacking Lebanon, making them “legitimate military targets” for its air and missile forces. Settlers were told to “evacuate immediately,” as their settlements had become bases for the enemy military. A video issued by Hezbollah’s Military Media reiterated this warning.
