When is a papaya ready to eat?

It's the "star" variety, will it turn entirely yellow?

Just a wonder on how you'd spend it. I'd probably buy up some land and build a nice village or town kind of similar to Poundbury. I'd probably sell houses at a fair price but only to people who send in a CV and seem to be upstanding people who actually want to work and be a part of a community, as well as giving them a mortgage Then I'd have a nice mansion and pretend to be a Lord where I can look over my wonderful tenants and maybe buy them Christmas gifts and send them birthday cards. Help them out if they need it.

Basically what some Lords did centuries ago but probably more kinder. Oh, and the place will be built with nice old timey architecture as well. Probably cobble streets because screw cars lmao. I just want to give people a nice life I guess as well as LARP as nobility

Not like "I went to school with one" but have had an actual friendship?

I've had a couple of conversations recently where people have confidently said things about the Black community that are ridiculously incorrect. The kind of shit where you can tell they grew up in a very white community and learned about Black history as a college freshman.

Disclaimer: I am white, but I grew up in a Black neighborhood. I was one of 3 white kids in my elementary school lol, including my brother.

Do you guys ever use the Internet Archive for anything? I agree that they're doing a great job archiving things, but realistically, through time most of things which happened have been forgotten.

I use the Wikipedia like once a week to look something up, but I only ever used the Internet Archive to look at a early version of my own website. But never for anything else. But perhaps I'm missing out on something?

Hi All! I have an old Delll E6440, which started acting weird 1 month ago. After any kind of swiching it off (includes shutdown, hibernation, sleep), randomly i can't wake it up (this can happen even on restart), when i press the power button these can happen:

  • the power LED on, and that's all. Nothing happens, the HDD, or battery charging LED does nothing, the screen is off, i can't turn it off, even if i press the power button for 10 seconds, i can only turn off by removing the battery
  • power led on, some blinking of hdd led, but then same as above
  • power led on, hdd led blinking, dell logo comes up on screen, hangs there, others are same as above
  • starts correctly, and i can use, but its very slow, like if the CPU is running at low frequency, also on linux mint (main os) this time the battery indicator is missing, like if it would be a desktop pc, the system not even detects the battery, or charging, even if it runs from battery only. After a half hour, the cooler revs up, the system gets faster, like normally, and the battery/charging indicator appears
  • starts correctly, everything is normal, and stable

So a usually turn on, is like this: fail, take out battery and back, fail, battery out-in, fail, battery..., starts correctly. But for example today i had to to the battery cycle 8 times until it started.

I've checked the cmos battery, its fine with voltage a little bit above the nominal, and never was UEFI settings loss. I've tried without the HDD(SSD) too, nothing changed.

I've tried to start without battery, on charger, but no any reaction on power button, not even the LED. The charger supplies the normal voltage, also tried with other charger for same type, but nothing changed. If the laptop starts correctly, also charges the battery as normal.

Do anyone have some hints, why is this happening? I've done longer RAM tests too, no error.

Three possibilities come to mind:

Is there an evolutionary purpose?

Does it arise as a consequence of our mental activities, a sort of side effect of our thinking?

Is it given a priori (something we have to think in order to think at all)?

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses! Just one thing I saw come up a few times I'd like to address: a lot of people are asking 'Why assume this?' The answer is: it's purely rhetorical! That said, I'm happy with a well thought-out 'I dispute the premiss' answer.

As I was growing up, my family had a couple of sayings I took for granted were universal, at least within my language. As I became an adult I have learned that these are not universal at all:

  • the ketchup effect. It is an expression meaning that when things arrive, they all arrive at the same time. Think of an old school glass ketchup bottle. When you hit the bottom of it, first there is nothing, then there is nothing and then the entire content is on your food.
  • faster than Jesus slid down the mount of olives. Basically a saying that implies that the mount of olives is slippery due to olive oil and Jesus slipped.
  • What you lack in memory, your legs suffer. An expression meaning that when you are forgetful, you usually need to run back and thus your legs suffer.

Please share your own weird family sayings.

I have a self hosted blog currently, and I'm considering posting it on medium.com

I blog mostly for fun and I have not tried to monetize it. Are there any reasons to not use medium?

What about alternatives like substack?

Example: I stopped because I grew attached to an anime called Zombie Land Saga (2018) and am currently trying to forget about it now.

I posted about it on Reddit, then on here because I didn’t agree with the writing of the overall show.

I won’t bicker about it anymore though.

I just had an experience with a auto soap dispenser, sink, towels and dryer set in the same place in a public restroom, didn't have to walk to a shared dryer

Plus if electric cars become the norm, the streets will be quiet for the first time since the industrial revolution

(Example at the end)

Usually we discuss stereotypes in terms of how they are harmful—which is good because it’s super important to recognize and confront the stereotypes that perpetuate systems of oppression and hurt. That doesn’t mean all of them are harmful, though. Some are neutral and and some are a net positive. If you can think of neutral ones that’s fine but I’m especially interested in the constructive and beneficial ones. Hopefully I’m explaining this well enough but if it becomes clear I didn’t I’ll delete this post.

Example: I usually encourage people, especially kids and pedestrians, to assume that drivers can’t see you. While it’s not necessarily true even a majority of the time, it’s nevertheless a constructive stereotype to hold in terms of road safety.

When I get a match on a dating app, and it's going well, I often run into the problem of not knowing how to conclude texting for the day. My social battery runs out pretty quickly when texting. Especially when I just met the other person that day. I usually just tell a white lie.

So does anyone maybe have a good line on how to end things casually, for the day? Or is this something you should tell them beforehand? Or is telling a white lie the proper way to go in this scenario?

Please let me know your thoughts on the matter.

I am just curious where are possible places where I could find sustainable seafood in Singapore apart from the local supermarket like NTUC Fairprice which sells probably less than 5% of the goods that carries any of the sustainable seafood labels such as MSC/ASC/BAP and SEATOBAG Sunset Way which is probably one of the vendors/stores that sells sustainable seafood standalone
