I've recently made some updates to the ActivityPub Relay I maintain. This includes a regularly updated list of connected instances for monitoring their status and having an easy way to refer to instances for inquiry. I've also added a relay policy which states instances will be banned for featuring bigoted content or having poor admin/uptime.

I definitely have room for some more Mastodon, Misskey, and Pleroma instances.

The relay server itself is located in the east coast of the United States, but open to all regions.

We just released Mastodon 4.5.6, 4.4.13, and 4.3.19.

These versions contain various bug fixes, including a fix for a moderate security vulnerability.

Full release notes and update instructions are available on the GitHub releases page.

As X could soon be banned in the UK amid sexualised AI images concerns, the obvious beneficiary will be Bluesky (a US public benefit corporation) and not Mastodon (whose software is owned by the German non-profit Mastodon gGmbH, now in the process of moving the project to a new foundation.)

The privacy approach of the microblogging service Bluesky risks being confused with that of the instant messaging app Signal (also based in the US, but run by a Foundation), as they are both led by outspoken women (Jay Graber and Meredith Whittaker) who are frequently covered in the media.

But they are really quite different: direct messages on Bluesky are unencrypted (as they are on Mastodon unfortunately) and the service collects quite a lot of personal data (see section 8B in their privacy policy), uses these data for marketing and “other purposes” (section 10), and shares them with “third-party services” and “business partners” (section 11).

As a European-based service, what is Mastodon doing to be seen (and chosen) as a valid alternative?

From the outside, some people think life in Gaza looks fine. They see pictures of markets, a bit of chocolate on a shelf, maybe a cup of coffee — and they assume we’re okay.

But I live here. And I can tell you — nothing feels okay. Behind every photo of “normal life,” there is pain, hunger, and exhaustion. There are days when I can’t find basic things like bread, water, or medicine. There are moments when I feel guilty even wanting something as simple as coffee — because so many can’t find food at all.

It breaks my heart to see the world believe that life here is normal. It’s not. We are surviving, not living. I walk through the markets with an empty wallet, knowing I can’t buy what my family needs. The shelves may have shiny products, but our hearts are heavy, and our hands are empty.

Please don’t look away. Gaza is suffering silently. Your support means food for a family, medicine for a child, hope for someone who has lost almost everything.

I’m tired… but I’m still holding on. Please, keep standing with us. We need you — now more than ever. 🇵🇸💔 https://gofund.me/00439328

hey all,

i was looking at either joining mastodon or bluesky, if im thinking about this in the right way, bluesky is just a mastondon instance, correct? that means that i could choose another instance if i wanted to more suited to what im looking for, but how does it work like lemmy, where i can see posts from all instances on the fediverse?

I deleted my Mastodon account a long time ago. My server was Mastodon.social, but then I deleted my account because it was boring. What is the best Mastodon server for gaming (especially Roblox) and technology?

Last year, we launched our first batch of plushies, and our community has embraced the #Plushtodon literally and figuratively. It sold out in Europe within a few weeks. Sadly, that means a lot of you missed out on the chance to get one. We’ve listened to your feedback and decided to bring the creature back with a few amendments: Size and color. For the first time, the #Plushtodon will be available in two flavourful colors, and half the size, making it much easier to fit within every household or mode of transport, while maintaining the delightful softness and squishiness that it’s come to be known for.

As the title says, just trying to find mastodon/fedi instances that are friendly to Marxist-Leninists, thank you.

Quote posts are finally here, as well as automated fetching of remote replies and a lot of other improvements.

For server moderators, there is also a way to block registrations based on keywords appearing in usernames.

Please test it out and provide feedback 💬

If all goes well, we plan to release the final 4.5.0 version within the next 3 weeks.

For example, when I attach an image to my PF posts like this, it will show up fine in M, and that post will of course cross over because I added some tagged terms. So far, so good.

But as for the images in the body of the post (drawn from Imgur in the post above), they don't seem to show up at all when seen from M. To be clear, I'm using the Lemmy-style ![]() markup with those. I also tested with the HTML <img>imageURL</img> markup, but that didn't work, either.

So far in trying to research this, I'm seeing some directives that only attached images will 'cross the barrier,' or at least something that's been marked up a special way for Mastodon. Note: one limitation here is that I can only add a single image to the header of a PF post. Images in the body must be hosted elsewhere.

Any idears..?

Most instances don't mention their character limit, joinmastodon.org don't mention character limit, mastodonservers.net is outdated (for example, there it says mstdn.social has a 1000 character limit, but you open the link it says 500)... I have to go creating accs in every instance to discover the character limit?

Twitter is criticised for being closed for those without an account.

  1. Download Mastodon official app for iOS;
  2. Launch it.
  3. Congratulations! Create an account or go away.

I think maybe it would’ve been cool if Mastodon was… open for everyone?
