A bit disingenuous to put a picture of the head of the executive branch under a comment about a legislative body’s passed bill.

He agrees with it like you'd expect so no need to worry.

Biden denounces ICC for ‘outrageous’ implication of equivalence between Israel and Hamas

The Biden administration on Monday forcefully denounced efforts by the International Criminal Court to seek arrest warrants for top Israeli officials and Hamas leaders, saying the court’s efforts put the terrorist organization and a top US ally on equivalent footing.

Regardless, he is the face of the US empire right now. Makes sense to have his pic when the US is doing something again

Except Biden put out a statement opposing this legislation:

The Administration strongly opposes H.R. 8282, the “Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act.” H.R. 8282 would impose mandatory sanctions and visa restrictions on any foreign person determined to aid, materially assist, or provide financial support for efforts by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to undertake certain investigations and prosecutions, among others. This legislation could require sanctions against court staff, judges, witnesses, and U.S. allies and partners who provide even limited, targeted support to the court in a range of aspects of its work.

The Administration is deeply concerned about the ICC Prosecutor’s heedless rush to apply for arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials. At the same time, the Administration opposes the imposition of sanctions against the ICC, its personnel, its judges, or those who assist its work. There are more effective ways to defend Israel, preserve U.S. positions on the ICC, and promote international justice and accountability, and the Administration stands ready to work with the Congress on those options.

Just because he said something else critical of the ICC doesn't mean he supports the house sanctions.

"heedless rush" oh fuck you press secretary. Nearing 50k dead more being starved daily, but somehow it's heedless and unwarranted.

Well, I read that as Biden saying “Are you insane?”

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world -1 points 5 months ago

Definitely. Yet on brand for .ml

You do realize Biden has announced his support for denouncing the ICC for this very action by the House right? He absolutely should be held to account for it.

EDIT: Ok pedants, Sanction and 'denounce' are not the same - I get it. One has actual limitations preventing us from interacting with the people who don't even want to come here anyway.

[-] paultimate14@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

If you scroll up a bit, someone else was kind enough to post Biden's quote opposing this piece of legislation.

[-] EchoCT@lemmy.ml -5 points 5 months ago

Fair but the detail is irrelevant in this particular case.

"We support international law..." "Except when we don't."

Why even pretend?

[-] paultimate14@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Is that a sourced quote from Biden or the administration, or are you just making up a quote to get mad at?

There's plenty of room to criticize Biden for his actual actions in the Israel-Palestine conflict. No need to make shit up.

In fact, the only reason I could think to do so would be if you were his political opponent. Like, hypothetically speaking, if I were a conservative on the Internet trying to undermine Biden's support and also draw attention away from the fact that it's Republicans in the House doing this, I might (hypothetically) post this article with a purposefully vague headline and a picture of Biden on the Internet. Seems doing something like that would serve GOP goals rather nicely, wouldn't it?

[-] EchoCT@lemmy.ml -1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Ah the everlasting if you're not with us you're against us argument. Classy.

Maybe, just maybe, I don't think we should be supporting genocide; even when it's "our team" - since apparently that's the only way y'all see it.

[-] paultimate14@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Maybe it's just me, but I'm failing to see how accusing Biden of supporting things that he has explicitly condemns is going to help stop genocide here?

[-] EchoCT@lemmy.ml -2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Sanction, Denounce, it all boils down to "The ICC can fuck itself, we do what we want; and what we want is to support the genocide of the Palestinian people."

If your argument boils down to near meaningless (there is a hassle for ICC members with the sanction) pedantry, then your argument sucks.

On brand for .world users to defend a fascist in these comments

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I’m not defending anyone just pointing out the disengenuous spin that is purposely being made by misrepresenting the republicans led house. And yes that is on brand for ml. I despise Bidens support for Israel very much but the level of shit like picturing those in totally different government branch coming out of ml is very noticeable and blatant. World@lemmy.world has the same news but the picture is of the leader of the house. That is actually an accurate representation of the event.
