Star Trek is very much a product of Hollywood despite it's aspirational content and subject to the same profit driven motives that demand perpetual growth; in the past, it was berman that Hollywood believed could increase Star Trek's growth and now it's kurtzman, for better or worse.

I intend to watch either way (just not right away if it's seems in poor taste) and in the hopes that the clearly better talent, matalas, has a chance to shine like the last time the clearly better talent did during the previous tenure did, w behr and deep space nine.
